Poo in my peas?

I've just opened a new packet of frozen peas poured them into a pan of boiling water and saw something brown plop in - still frozen. I took it out at first thinking it was a rogue pea or bit of pod - on closer inspection it really does look like bird poo. I've contacted the store (Mr T - not their branded product I hasten to add) and am still waiting for someone to call me back. Being Saturday everywhere else is closed - should I take this up with just the shop, the manufacturer or environmental health? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I've kept the packet and the poolike substance.

best to contact the manufacturer and environmental health department. they will both want to check what the substance is and that it is a one off and take further action should there be any problems.Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0

Tesco should ask you to take it back to the store where it will be secured and returned to their supplier. You will be asked for your details and given a telephone number, code number and the name of the customer services assistant that takes the item from you. You will also get a refund.
You will at some stage in the future (for me it was only a couple of weeks) with an explanation of what it was and what they are doing about it. I expect you will also get a money card from them by way of an apology.
If you don't want to do this, then contact environmental health but they will expect you to take the product to them.0 -
I bet you're like me.. can't find a winning coupon in a packet of crisps or a choc bar but can find something grim and a one off

It was actually - I've only just got the pun - thanks for that!! thanks for all your other suggestions I think i will give environmental health a ring tomorrow. I phoned tesco yesterday morning they didn't have anyone available and said they would call back - I'm still waiting and whilst I don't want to make a huge fuss I don't want them just to take it off me, bin it and give me my money back.0 -
Tesco will not bin it. They will follow the complaint up to Birds Eye. As Bossyboots said you will get an explanation. You could always write to Birds Eye. Keep the offending article with the rest of the bags contents in the freezer and ask Birds Eye what they intend to do with it.
I work in Food production and Tesco's is one of our biggest customers. I was looking at a chart on Friday that showed customer complaints per million units. If it goes above 10 complaints per million units the factory loses money I believe.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -

Here I am back again trying not to be too cynical. What was the outcome of the poo in my peas. Hey I know a piece of poo when I see one. After seeking advice from a number of quarters I decided to take a reasoned response and return to Tesco with the frozen peas and alleged piece of poo. yes they took it very seriously were quite disgusted etc etc would take it up with the supplier. 2 days later I received letter from tesco customer services very sorry etc etc have passed on to supplier who will be back to you with full report in 14 days. 3 days later I received letter from Birds eye investigation under way will let you know asap. Heard nothing so phoned Tesco early December (4 weeks after complaint made) will chase and call you back (heard nothing). Phoned Birds eye they said still under investigation don't know when you will hear. Yesterday (2 months after complaint made) I received £10 of voucher from birds eye as goodwill gesture, unfortunately they never received product chased the store who said they had sent on 25th November (why did it take Tesco 19 days to send poo in my peas?????) assume must have been lost in the post, unfortunately there is nothing else they can do. I phoned Tesco customer services central in Scotland - she said I'm sorry but if it has been lost in the post there is nothing we can do(check this out - she said she did not know the number of my local store but if it was the nearest store to my postcode she could try to look it up and give them a ring to find out what they had done as she did know the procedure for returning goods) She said she would phone store and ring me back - that was yesterday morning. Yesterday I was furious today I just find the whole thing completely laughable - not funny - but laughable and pathetic. Next time if there is one (hopefully not) and my definitive advice to anyone else is to go straight to trading standards (ed. oops I meant environmental health). Rant over - phew!!0
