SoGA entitles you to a cash refund if the goods contravene legislation. Write to head office or contact Trading Standards.

I would have thought that because the changing rooms were unavailable then you are entitled to a refund under the Distant Selling Regulations. This is because you had no opportunity to try the article for size and so it's then treated as though you had bought the article by mail-order.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Bit confused here-i dont think the OP has said the goods were damaged has she?
Some shops dont have changing rooms at all.If goods are ok there is no legal requirement for a refund.

Sorry, not referring to your post, but gyzmos.
The unfair bit,is saying "bring it back if it doesnt fit" because they havent said "bring it back and we will give you a cash refund",so they have done what they said they would do ie allow you to bring it back.Any decent store would acknowledge the situation, but, not sure they are a decent store.

I think there might be a mix-up. My post was in reference to the fact the the shop staff said they will only exchange items no matter what the problem is. For a change of mind, then this is fine. For damaged / misdescribed etc items, then it is not fine at all. The only thing that could be done in the situation given is to prove that the clothes were not of the size described, which would be a breach of the Sale and Supply of Goods Act. Such a thing would be costly, and an exchange or credit note would be more effective in terms of resolving the problem.
