Warning for all seasonal workers

The new government has re installed a rule that was made way back in 1995 under the conservatives that any individual that is seen to be in seasonal work or in remunerative work shall not qualify for any benefits.
This rule was initially introduced to stop high paid earners such as oil rig workers from claiming benefits while they were on shore leave without pay.
This government has twisted this rule to include every seasonal worker in the UK no matter what your wage is.

I am not aware that the rule has changed, and it is not nearly as straightforward as you have implied.
    Gone ... or have I?

Correct dmg24 the rule was initially made for very high earners but now is being used against any one that comes under "seasonal worker" be it a gardener, sea side fair worker in fact any one that has a job from A to B every year.
It's very simple... You are either working or you are not!
  • I wish when people made statments like this that they would provide a link, rather than just giving their own (and often times distorted) view of the facts. A link allows people who may be affected check the facts for themselves.

No, it is not simple, it relates to how your period of employment is decided. You don't seem to really understand what you are talking about?

Isn't the rule the same as always where if you work less than 16 hours per week you can claim income based jobseekers allowance which will take into account any income you receive from paid work?

You have said that this affects everyone, not just yourself.

Those that do seasonal work often have their hours and income applied over a longer period by the JCP. The classic (simplified) example is the holiday rep, who works every summer for the same company. During this period they also work long hours. Because there is a clear cycle, their earnings/ hours are applied over a year long cycle rather than just the period that they work.
