but a crb check will only tell you about somones past not their present or future
its gonna get to a point where to even go to school to pick your kids up youll have to have a crb check

Which is why I never suggested it did.

A bit of common sense by schools would not go amiss.

    exactly they are regularly checked

    ...no they aren't.

There are a pile of teachers in schools today that have never had a CRB check as CRB checks were made law after they got their jobs. I found this information out when I went to a (now defunct) VBS workshop April last year.

If a teacher or classroom assitant hasn't changed job since 1997, then they are likely to not have a CRB check as schools are only requested to get a new CRB check when they change job.

And most schools don't repeat checks after 3 years for their staff either, despite the fact that the check is only as good as the day it was printed.

At our school the head asks if anyone has a problem with pictures being taken. Nobody has said anything so I'm not sure what would happen if someone did have a problem. I'd assume their child would be removed from the stage while pictures are being taken and then put back for the performance.

You're allowed to take pictures before and after the performance, for personal memories and to show friends and relatives, but we're reminded not to put them on the internet etc.

They don't like people taking photo's during the performance as flashes are off putting to the children and it disturbs people in the audience if others keep standing up or holding cameras in the air to take pics.

They also do a DVD and take pictures at the dress rehearsal and we can order reprints, with money going to school funds.

    What a sensible policy!

    Not really.

I am happy that schools are not filled with teachers waiting to prey on youngsters. Seems to be the exception rather than the rule;)

a crb only last 3 months i was told because if you applied for a job in the jan which needed it, then moved to another job in the april they would have to do another as the previous crb would be out of date. and they cost about £44 each crb ( mine did in jan last yr) will a school really pay this every 3 months per teacher, ta, cleaner, office staff, everyone who is connected to the school ?

if so then wow, no wonder they don't have much left in their budget's. and if not , surely a crb every 3 years is no way enough. plus it only shows something up if the person has got caught doesn't.

I've been working in the same school since 2002 and have had 2 CRB checks done by them. All staff are now on a 3 year cycle for CRB checks being kept up to date. Any new school in which I do even half an hour's work per week requires a separate CRB check. Peripatetic staff have a nightmare with this.

Not only that, but after working in my school for 7.5 years, I was asked to produce evidence of my degree and PGCE. My degree was awarded in 1989 and PGCE in 1994 so it was not much fun trying to find the certificates. What really annoyed me was that the school have my DfES number, which is only given when you get your accreditation. To get on the PGCE course, I had to provide evidence of my degree so by my reasoning, the fact I have a DfES number shows that my degree and PGCE have been checked. Presumably this all creates employment for someone...!

a crb lasts 3 years, i am due to have mine done again soon i have had lots done as i have been supply TA in 2 schools plus afterschool groups i needed them for each placement 1 does not cover all. if you are a voluntary helper in a school they can get them done for free.if you are a teacher or teaching staff i dont think they would be stupid enough to do something to risk their job in all honesty. i feel that the sales of the dvds are good as the money goes to the school fund the budget per child per school year is not enough to cover the costs of teaching/supplies/trips etc thats why schools have to ask for donations which i dont mind paying if it helps my childrens education

  • At my childrens school people who volunteer on site do not have a CRB, I know this as I read with the children every week, and I have never been asked to have one!
