PC Diagnostics Software

Hi,

Having viewed a previous posting on the subject of slow PC performance/crashing, 1 Click Fix was recommended as a possible solution.

As my PC is exhibiting identical problems, I have downloaded the evaluation version of 1 Click Fix. Having run the evaluation, it is telling me that I have some 200+ errors of which over 50% are severe.

However, in order to proceed any further, it looks as if I will have to purchase the software. Before doing this, has anyone else used 1 Click Fix, and how good was it at improving your PCs performance?

Any feedback (or alternative freeware suggestions) will be most welcome.

Many thanks.

If you have problems on your PC, you should be able to sort them out for free, if you follow the steps given in this sticky at the top of this forum.

how much ram have you got?

    when/how does it crash?

haven't used the software, but many of these things tend to overstate a problem to make you buy it.

try https://www.ccleaner.com first, and ewido, and lavasoft ad-aware then rerun clickfix to see if some of the severe probems go away.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

If you Google for "1 click fix" you may be surprised that at least the first hundred or so hits seem to have almost the same summary blurb with only the URLs being different - and many of these repeat themselves again and again, and others are <something>.qarchive.org.

Not something I would willingly download...

fully working for 30 days .....enough to fix your errors (if they exist, i suspect the other software is trying to scare you into buying it )

  • I tend to start with Windows Advanced Care (http://www.download.com/Advanced-WindowsCare-Personal/3000-2086_4-10596895.html?tag=lst-0-4) to try and fix my machines when they perform slowly.

The other thing I also do on a yearly basis is wipe them completely, a bit drastic I know, but it gets rid of all the rubbish you pick up through the year.

Isnt 1 Click Fix that annoying software/spyware that appears in annoying pop ups telling you hat you have hundreds of problems..??

as for it telling you that there is over 200 problems... this is usually a ploy to get you to buy it.

I maybe off the subject slightly here but I use http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ for most of my diagnostics.

    that's R dog that is

  • ComputerActive magazine still have a fully licensed version of the well known Registry Mechanic program from PCTools available for free (usually £20). I'm quite reluctant about recommending registry cleaners but this one has performed very well for me since I installed it a few weeks ago. It creates automatic System Restore points before removing anything amongst it's features.
