Sky - cancel or keep?

Would like your opinions -

Need to call up this week and say inform Sky that the account holder has passed away and get it changed into my name. (should have done it months ago but only realised now that the house is sold and we are going through the process of moving).

I am moving to a friend's empty property for a couple of months and can't decide what to do with sky.

1. Cancel Sky+ completely and manage with Freeview
2. Change the account into my name and move house making Sky install it in the new property (but have to keep my very old Sky+ box)
3. Cancel Sky+ without changing account name, move to new property and start as a new customer. I only want Sky+ and not BB or talk.

I am not sure which of the above is best and wondered what you would do?

Don't think you can change the name on the old account -think you will have to start new acc. so might as well go for new install in new property - hopefully you'll be able to blag a free install plus new Sky+ box!

I'd recommend cancelling and then signing up as a new customer when you're settled again. If you go via Quidco, you could get cashback and a new Sky HD box (even if you don't want/need HD that's the only one they supply now and you don't have to sign up for the extra £10.25/month HD package).

Remember, only the account holder can cancel a Sky account - so they'll expect to hear a male (or female) voice as appropiate on the phone cancelling. The caller may have to know some personal details of the deceased and/or be able to blag their way through forgotten password procedures. Knowing the card number, the A/C number and the details of gthe A/C from which the subscriptions were/are paid might help too.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Cancelling the old one and starting afresh sounds like the easiest option then.

Is there any way out of the set-up fee? (am i right in thinking it is £30?)

I am going to be at friends empty property for propbably only 6 - 9 months, will sky let me move for free as normal in such a short space of time?

    thanks for any advice
