Just received this email from Plusnet
totally misleading and a rip-off to boot, is it legal, I am sure that the charges are not that much
Save £1.50 on your bill each month by paying using Direct Debit
Here's a quick reminder that we're introducing a £1.50 processing fee from 1st February if you pay by credit or debit card. This is to cover the extra cost of processing card payments.

Perfectly legal, even Ikea do it!
FYI, if you have a continuous payment arrangement using your credit card, they can only be cancelled by the company you are paying, not you. So this could be a blessing in disguise. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I got the same message from plusnet - well they have to pay for the new TV adverts somehow, don't they ?PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

BT charge £4.50 if you pay your phone bill by credit/debit card :mad:0

I took up my own concerns over the proposed extra charge for credit card payment of the plusnet monthly fee and contacted Plusnet - here is a part of their answer that explains................
'can confirm that the cost would be £x.xx for broadband if you pay by Direct Debit. If you were wishing to pay by credit/debit card you would be paying £x.xx plus £1.50 in card handling fees.'
Clearly they are addressing their admin costs and proposing to pass them on where appropriate. I will be changing payment to DD today and would advise others to do the same or jump ship.
The email was badged as a reminder - I have gone through all recent Plusnet emails and cannot find anything else that mentions this charge for credit card payment. A pseudo reminder is better than nothing at all I guess.PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

I have been with AOL for years and they have done the same thing without advising me in advance (it was £6.99 but now is £7.98). I am considering going for the full Primus package but am worried about having to change my email address on all the sites I use.0

Yes, BT charge £1.50 monthly, £4.50 every quarter.
BT has bought Plusnet a few years back, and I have no doubt that this extra charges are imposed by BT.
I'd rather be penalised by a £10 fee every time I was to default on my payments and still have a choice of paying the way I want.
Mind you, you still have a choice, but you are just penalised to make the wrong choice:huh:
It doesn't cost £1.50 to process a payment, it's a rip off.:mad:0 -
Hi all,
The emails notifying of the change were sent to all customers on the 3rd and 4th of december to the email addresses specified on accounts. If you don't have the email you can view it as a service notice (a closed ticket, essentially) on your account - if you visit the ticket page and click 'view all questions asked' you'll be able to see it in the list there.
