Have you got your own dining table in your parents house?

We've got glass ones. They are hardwearing, can easily be wiped over or even washed properly in the sink.

Ours were free too, they came with the table and chairs which we bought on eBay! :D

I do like the slate ones you can get now ~ especially with a nice new swish table! ;)

Ive just ordered a new dining room table and chairs, and have been looking for some placemats to protect it too!

I was surprised how expensive they are as well, especially the ones that come in sets of 4, and as I need 6, that means getting two sets!

Some good links, I like the pimpernickle site!
  • Remember to measure them!
I bought some lovely square ones last year - but they are too big for our table when we have four in the middle for the serving dishes, so have reverted to my old rectangle ones.

I've been looking for months for nice reasonable ones. Don't want slate, wood or glass, something wipeable not fabirc. Best I have seen are Ella Doran - beautiful but pricey....

Oh I like the stacks and stripes!

I wonder if theres a company that can make your own photos into placemats? I know you can get mousemats and t shirts!
  • House of Fraser had some lovely ones in the sale today £18 reduced to £4 odd for a set of 4.

I'm lazy, and a bit messy so we have an etched glass set at the moment, I think they look lovely, you get to see the table and they just wipe clean. We did have some nice cork backed sets in the past, but found they could be hard to keep clean (especially the set that had a fuzzy kind of backing too) and eventually they all got damaged (water damage) which was really annoying.

I love the look of the thick laser cut felt ones you can buy, but other than at Christmas time I've seen very few in the shops.

For BBqs we have a couple of sets of thick plastic ones shaped like sunflowers, and strawberries - funky but not elegant!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I need new tablesmats for my nice new table. They have to be good quality, this time around I'm not looking for a cheap 'that'll do' set, I want nice ones. :D

So...help me. Some peeps have recommended material ones, some peeps say those are decorative but useless against hot plates etc. I've only ever had cheap cork things from Argos before so I'm not exactly a placemat connoisseur.

What do you lot use? Are you happy with them or would you not buy the same type again?

Are the more expensive ones better quality or is the higher cost more for design?
