Recycling Mobile Phones with O2
I have just sent my old mobile phone off to O2 for recycling. I was quoted £38-00 which I was happy with. Unfortunately I have just recieved a text to say they have received my phone and will be paying me £34-20. I phoned them and got told there was a 10% reduction due to the fact there was a few scratches on the back of the phone. (what phone does not have a few scratches) I requested that they send my phone back to me and I will get £38-00 else where, only problem is, if I require my phone back they will charge me £14 something handling fee :eek::eek:.
So I have gone ahead and will not be using O2 to recycle my phones again.
This is just a warning to anyone who wants to recycle their old mobiles and get some cash in these hard times that they may not get what they were quoted from O2.
I have never had this happen to me before and always received a cheque for what I was quoted. Please read terms and conditions very carefully and dont make the mistake I did.

I had a brief look at O2 recycling while recycling my past phones, they always seem to offer the best prices, but they do very clearly mention there will be a reduction if the phone is damaged in any sort of way, even cosmetically which has always made me go elsewhere.0

I've just had a similar experience with O2 recycle. They valued my phone at £28. This was not the highest value I could have got but I went for the reputable "O2" brand over some other companies I was not familiar with. I recieved a text and e-mail today saying I have been deducted 10% for "minor cosmetic damage" and would be paid £25.20. The phone was not noticably damaged in any way and at the end of the day, it is a USED phone.
My advice is avoid O2 Recycle as they are obvoiusly inflating their quotes to look better than the competiton and then quoting terms and conditions clauses at you to lower their prices. I would suggest that given the condition of the phone I sent them, achieving 100% of the value quoted is nigh on impossible. I used Mazuma 12 months ago with no such problem, the price quoted was the price paid for the phone.
It is a shame that O2 feels that pinching back £2.80 from me is worth the ill feeling and loss of loyalty.0 -
If you send a phone from an O2 store you actually sign a notice saying you accept that it is only a quote, and there are things that reduce this amount, and should you be unhappy with the amount, tough.
Dont know what it says online but I can only imagine its the same, and having looked on the O2 website it was easy enough to find the info.0 -
"Even if your item is damaged in most cases we can make a revised offer up to 95%"
"13. What if I change my mind?
We can’t return anything to you once we receive it."
My main issue was that the phone was in extremely good condition, I only sold it as I had been given a work BB. I certainly wouldn't call it damaged, just obviously not new. Therefore I disagreed with their assessment of the condition of paying 90% of their quote.
Unfortunately by using O2 Recycle you are subject to a quote, rather than a firm offer. And they wont send it back if you don't like their final offer. So once you have sent them the phone, you are at the mercy of their judgement. The choice is yours but I wont be using them again.0
