Claim on your household insurance maybe, or did you get accidental damage insurance with the contract? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

thank you for your reply
i dont have houserhold insurance, not 100% sure on the other will have to check
it has a 2 year warranty but not sure if it will stand in my circumstances0 -
This is (unfortunately for the OP) an excellent example of why the 'free laptop' deals are such a bad idea. Assuming it's a 2 year contract, you are have agreed to pay £720 for a netbook that is probably worth less than half that, plus some airtime that would have been cheaper bought separately (maybe £10 a month?) And now (without any insurance) you are going to have to replace the netbook at your own expense order to get any benefit from the airtime contract.
Wouldn't some household insurance be a better investment? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
tbh i have been paying £2 a day on a three dongle for sometime now which adds upto £50-£60 a month to me, i do not have a computer of my own borrowed my brothers after mine broke some time ago and raather than pay £600 plus for one from bright house etc it would work out better i worked out £15 a month as the usage and that i would be paying £15 a month for the laptop working out at £360 which is a bit steep but the model below i used to own was meant to be 280 beofre i bought it in the sale so isnt too much more.
I have spoken to Vodafone and they have offered me a replacement laptop and arranged to collect the other
as for home insurance i do not have this but then we have just moved home and the previous house we lived in was furnished with a total idiot of a landlord that couldnt fix our boiler when we had a baby in the house so to be honest i wasnt too bothered about his stuff and dont have too much of value so wasnt really worth it, however we have now moved to a nice area we hope to settle down in and we are setting up a contents insurance through the council which isnt too expensive.
as for the above comment i was simply asking for a little advise on what i should do in this situation not someone to come and tell me i shouldnt of taken out the contract and i should of done something else, i dont tell people what they should do with there money so please do not tell me what to do with mine - we all have different lifes and circumstances in which we live.0 -
If you post on a public forum then you must expect people to comment on what you have said, and not all of them will necessarily say what you want to hear. It may not help you now, as you have already entered into the contract, but if my comments deter others from making the same mistake, then it's worthwhile.
If you need to spend £50+ a month on mobile broadband then it would be much cheaper to use ADSL broadband at around £20+ a month, depending on what is available on your exchange. And a new PC base unit can be bought for around £300, not £600.
Glad you have managed to get Vodafone to offer a replacement, in which case you must have taken some form of accidental damage cover out with it?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
sorry just having one of them days
internet is a must at moment i do save a lot of money buying for kids online and i find it a lot easier than trying to shop with them all as end up spending a lot more so do what i can on a night online.
we have only recently been using three dongle but it works out £2 which can either las a day or two, we have recently moved as i mentioned and the house doesnt even have a bt box to have anything installed but even if it did im not sure about it as we used to be with virgin but the bills were ridiculous they said we couldnt have internet without phone and then we fell for the oh you can have the tv free and it got extended but basically they would charge us whatever they liked and whenever we asked for an itemised bill it was yeah we'll get one out in the post to you but it never arrived so am a bit unsure i have got used to pay as you go .
i know you can get a laptop cheaper i bought one last year in sales for under £200 saving roughly £100 but at the moment am strapped for cash and my brother needs his pc back, we only moved in october had to do a full council house from scratch and then just as we got sorted for xmas the car broke and have had to spend a fair few £100s sorting that out, when i referred to £600 i meant if i was to buy one from bright house or somewhere like that because at the moment i can not afford the outlay all at once.
I understand you wanting to put people off its not an ideal situation to get one on contract and i agree with that but at the moment its the only way i can get one and to me it seems a cheaper option - whether it will turn out to be will be another thing but i guess if it does go wrong i will learn but am willing to take the risk so guess its my fault at the end of the day
not sure regarding accidental cover i didnt pay for any extras added on just the monthly amount to pay for contract0 -
So what happened to the laptop that you bought last year??
You could also have continued using the 3 dongle, with separately bought Data SIM cards.
A prepaid 3GB '3' data SIM lasting up to 3 months would cost you around £8. So, for £32 a year you could have 12 GB lasting for up to 12 months. If you used more, you could double your usage to 2GB per month and still only spend £64 for a year. That is £5.30 per month. At 1GB per month, you are spending a measly £2.65 per month.
Now you are paying £30 per month for much the same.
Worse still, if you go over your data limit, they will charge you even more.
What were you thinking??0 -
So now you are paying £720 for a £300 laptop that you cannot afford and at least £420(it could turn out to be more) for 2 years of mobile broadband access. £17.50 a month for 3GB of data use.
With my solution, you would pay only up to £8 per month, which no chance of a bill for excessive usage.
Plus if you used less using my '3' solution, you would pay less... as indicated; as little as £2.65 per month. This is not the case with your Vodafone choice. That will be at least £30 per month come rain or come shine.
If you go over the 3GB limit at any time..(If you exceed these limits an out-of-bundle charge of £15 per GB will apply.)
Is this the deal?
They have a 7 day return policy. Perhaps you should use it.0 -
why do people on here have to be so "oh i know it all" "you shouldnt of done that" when replying - i understand yeah i am paying way over the odds for it and yeah i am wondering whether i should of taken out the contract or whether i should cancel but this post has NOTHING to do with the contract itself and i was simply asking for advise as to whether they would replace - what i do with my money is my problem and if i was to go get closer to going over the usage i would simply but a dongle and find a cheaper option than £15 per gb
as for the title i edited it to say i have sorted the problem - so there is no need to keep on moaning about it!0 -
The thing is that this is a money saving site.
Nobody knows if you'll get the laptop replaced or not but most can see that getting the thing in the first place was an expensive option. Even buying on credit card would probably have been cheaper - I'm assuming you must have one to get the airtime contract.
If you just want this thread to die off then your best bet is to stop responding to it yourself. As you've found out this section of the site isn't the best for advice on consumer rights and the like which is what you needed.0
