Hi,
I completed an online application for JSA on December 24th.
Believe it or not (and all credit to them) someone phoned me less than 1 hour later checking a few details and arranging a "first interview" at the Job Centre on December 29th (they were open in Scotland).
I attended the interview and took along my bits and pieces including a copy of my rent agreement ( New Tenancy started 21st December 1st ever HB claim).
I saw someone who got me to sign a couple of forms that would be handed over to HB department along with a copy of Tenancy Agreement. I then saw the Job Advisor and "signed on"
I next signed on 7th January and here we are on the 11th with no spondies !!! The lady on 7th said a payment was on its way - the claim went to Aberdeen for checking as I gave up my last job to move to Scotland.
When am I likely to receive any money and how long will the decision from "Aberdeen " take.
I spoke to someone at the local council about my HB claim and they said it would be looked into "next week" as they had just received it from Job Centre (also on 7th)
What date will this be effective from and when will I be likely to receive any cash - my initial claim for this was on 24th in online claim and the tenancy started on 21st December.
Thanks

What did the JCP say when you asked them this question?Gone ... or have I?0

Also there has been weekends and bank holidays so bear that in mind. The claim only starts to process once it is in the hands of the processing centre (Aberdeen in your case) so they wouldn't have started on it until 30th at the very earliest. But as the last person said, it depends on the area and how many claims they have to process.0

Thanks for the information - I assumed when the JSP person looked into the system on Friday 7th and said a "payment was on it's way" that meant I would receive something this week - she didn't elaborate any further.
Am I correct that payments are made up to the time a decision is made on eligibility ?
With regard to the HB claim as it is a new tenancy I was led to believe a claim is backdated to its commencement (ie 21st December)- is this true and if not when will it start from.

I don't think JSA payments are made until they have decided you are eligible...some benefits do do this, but I'm pretty sure JSA isn't one of them.
Housing Benefit will be paid from the date you applied unless you have a good reason for not applying sooner.
HTH0 -
I signed on a similar date (Initial claim made on 20th, first signing on the 28th and second on the 11th). I've yet to have a payment, but when I asked I was told I should be getting one within 3 days, so hopefully it shouldn't be too long for you.0

When I last claimed Jobseekers Allowance I waited for a period of just over 3/4 weeks before receiving any payment.
Surely this isn't right? I understand they can be very busy, have problems etc but I sympathise with the original poster.
Hope everything works out for you0 -
Thanks for all your input got some cash yesterday but not the full two weeks.
If you application is effective from X-Mas eve are the Three "waiting days" the following three days ie 25/26/27 or should it be 24/25/26 and hence benefit due from 27th. IE is the day you sign on counted as a waiting day or do they start the following day.
With regard to the Housing Benefit does that have three waiting days or is it payable straight away- and will it be payable from the first time I claimed ie on the JSA application online on the 24th as the JSA allowance was even though my first human contact was on the 28th.0 -
I'm not entirely sure about JSA, so I'll let someone else answer that, but Housing Benefit will be paid from the date you applied for HB, not JSA.
There isn't a waiting period, so whenever you gave the form to your council is when the money will start. Thanks for all your input got some cash yesterday but not the full two weeks.
