Natwest Platinum Payment Issues!

I made the payment then i got the statement few hours later!
so tbh they are splitting hairs!
You are also "splitting hairs"
The Terms and Conditions state that you are to make payments according to the instructions in your statements. You hadn't read the statement and made a speculative payment. You got it wrong and the payment arrived before the statement was produced.
Let me turn the tables: Let's say that you don't have a 0% APR promotion on your card and you normally pay your balance in full to avoid the interest charges and in one month, you are £50 short of paying in full. If you then made a payment of £50 early on the 6th (your statement date) to try and avoid incurring interest charges and your next statement was produced later on the 6th, which statement would you want this payment credited against? My bet is that it would be the earlier one otherwise you would incur interest charges. They're effectively giving you as much time as possible to make payments against the last statement before producing the next statement.
Time to just move on and accept you screwed up.My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
They are not a substitute for professional financial advice - but you knew that already didn't you?VSP 2011 - Member #25 - Started 6th December 2010 - Total As Of 4th May 2011 (21 weeks in!) - £323.67/£500 - So far so good!0 -
I did this once with HSBC range them up nice and politely and explained due to the faster payment service i made a payment intending for it to be against that month and they classed it as previous month and gave me a £12 fine
without any issues she simply recinded the £12 and I now pay it one day after the statement is produced, and everyone is happy

I've just made this mistake with a NatWest Platinum Card. Paid an amount before due date in December, then paid a further large amount which was posted to the account on the 24th.
Statement produced on the 25th, so despite thinking I'd covered this month (yes, STUPID ME!!) got a late fee letter this morning.
Phoned them up, paid the outstanding instalment and explained politely to the woman on the phone what had gone wrong. Late fee being refunded and note applied to account to (hopefully ) save a late payment note on my credit report.
At the end of the day, it's my own silly fault, but as some posters here have said, a bit of humble pie on the phone can work wonders...0 -
Yep many providers will let you off the hook for a first time offence, particularly a mistake of this nature.
Of course if you go on about how you were punished for "taking the initiative"... well...0
