How to work the timer on Combi boiler??

Options
Hi All,

Hope this is the right board to be posting!

We've moved from a house with warm air heating to one with rads and a combi boiler. I've never had rads before (from NZ you see) and am confused by the timer. Its a round dial with what I assume is n umbering that corresponds to a 24 hours clock. There are dozens of tiny switches around the outer edge of the dial which you can push in.

So do I push the switches in from say 6-7 and then from 19-21 and turn the know from off/on to timer????

I know I sound clueless but am hpoing to get this sorted soon as the nights are getting colder and I'd like the heating on for half an hour or so before the kids get up in the mornings.

Can anyone help??

Al.

Yes Kiwi.. you will see a black arrow on the face of the 'clock' with, maybe rotation marks too. The thing becomes a clock once powered.(Maybe your timer is in situ and powered all the time, some are detachable)
On the side also you may see a red slider, with embossed marks , clock hands and an I , or maybe off/timer. The clock hands on the slider on mine are at the bottom, and means the timer is set for hour switches pressed in.Has that confussed you.

The round 24 hour clock timers are mechanical and the switches, as you suggest, turn the heating on and off. You can move these switches to give you the times you want for on and off.

There normally is an overide switch so you can skip the next position. e.g. assume it is 4pm and your timer is off and is next set to come on from, say, 7pm to 10pm. If you press the overide button it will come on straight away, skip the 7pm timer and switch off at 10pm.

These timers are quite old and can be replaced with modern digital timers that are far easier to operate.
