Best place to advertise student accommodation?!

Hi,

My girlfriend has a room in student halls that she doesn't need any more. She's paying £169 a week and is having a lot of difficulty trying to get a replacement tenant for the remainder of the year (lease runs until September so it's going to be a considerable amount of money by then)

She actually met someone yesterday who was interested, the girl paid the £250 deposit only for it to fall through because she changed her mind, but now it's at the point where we're not even sure where to advertise it?

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated, she's only just finished uni and doesn't have a job yet, so it's really a *lot* of money in those circumstances (to be honest it's a hell of a lot in any circumstances!)

Thank you

Thanks, good shout but already tried that a few times, whoever she speaks to just says it's the responsibility of the student and they can't help with things like that (her uni is new, and from what I gather incredibly under staffed and badly ran)

(edit) it's also one of those halls where *any* student can go there, you know? One of those Unite buildings, it doesn't really matter what uni you go to, so I guess with that in mind it could be worth trying the other local and more organised unis!

    Well it is her responsibility.

If she has been to university, she knows that on the back of the ladies loo doors there are A4 sheets regarding rentals with tear off slips with contact details. There are also flyposts round the campus with the same info,. There may well be a community notice board in the Union that she can use. If not, stick one up and see how long it lasts.

Outside, there will be one or two small corner shops that are known for their rental boards. It migh cost a quid or two but maybe worht trying.

Oh and there may well be intwernational students starting in january and exchange students looking for a part-year let.

What exactly has she done to try and advertise her room?

    Many thanks for the replies!

@ nancyo - that was the first place she tried I think but no luck unfortunately.

@ RAS - lots of good suggestions, some that she's tried and some that she hasn't, but next time she's in London (maybe should arrange a trip this week, although it is an 8 hour journey from here!) I'm sure she can try a lot of those things.

@ abc - they look perfect thanks, and I hadn't seen those sites before (just tried gumtree, accommodation for students, the student room etc etc)

    Thanks again

  • Have you tried fresher groups or university groups on facebook? Thats one of the first places people look when at uni.

More good suggestions thanks! Yeah the fresher and uni groups on Facebook were actually the first thing she tried, but didn't have any joy there (for some reason they're not really used at her uni, her wall posts are still top after 3 weeks!)
