  • Just to bring those who are interested up to date:

Been on to GEKO today who have declined a meeting because they have said I have 'escalated' the situation by going to Orange and involving them. They have emailed Orange with their version of events, an email that I asked for a copy of but GEKO have declined to send me.

I then called Orange who told me that the case has been put to the Executive level at Orange. The rep said he felt I had a very good case against GEKO as they mis-sold me a package with web-based phones and said they should have discussed data packages with me as standard. He hoped that the Executive level saw it the same as me as this would put GEKO at fault, causing them to do something about my case.

Everything now depends on the email that Orange send to GEKO. Wheteher it goes in my favour, time will tell.....

Did the Rep say whether ir was Geko that had instigated this or not ?
Was anything mentioned about the winding up petition ?
It's not just about the money
  • Hi,

Did you ever plug your phone into a laptop/PC and then continue to surf the internet on your PC? We have had instances at work where a user would leave there HTC plugged into a PC and as a result the PC uses the phone as its gateway to get to the web, obviously this isn't included in any data allowance and would explain the massive bill, we sometimes had bills of over £700.00

Good Luck trying to get some monies off

    :(

One thing I found out some time ago was that if you had a laptop (running windows) wired to a network and at the same time had a wireless connection to the net/network then windows uses the wireless rather the wired connection. Sounds dumb to me but thats why we were advised to switch wireless off when on the network because if the wireless connection drops it can cause data issues i.e. MS Outlook personal folder corruption.

You can assign a higher Interface metric cost to either the wireless connection or Wired, so either can be set-up as priority.
  • Thanks Silk.

It is Geko that have elevated it to the Orange Exec level. I have been told again by Orange Customer Services that Geko have a duty of fair sale. In their opinion this was not done because data was not even mentioned to me in the original phone call. orange told me that all emails thatreach exec level are answered within 24-48 hrs. Geko emailed Orange on Tuesday. Orange told me I should have a reply from GEKO by the close of play on Friday. As of my posting this, they only have 2 mins left! I don't think the call will be coming today. EVERYONE at Orange say this is a problem GEKO need to sort. I can only hope the execs agree with their lower staff....

The phones concerned here are both android phones which frequently synchronise online. This is one of the major arguments that has been used this week against T-Mobile when they unilaterally reduced their data allowance.

Ironically T-Mobile won't sell these phones without a data component in the contract. As they are part of Everything Everywhere along with Orange, you may be able to use this to assist in any negotiation.

    Best of luck.
