Mortgage-free Glee! Hung up my suit! Xmas Saver!
Hi Everyone, I have a Currys Multicare Insurance policy to cover my Washer/Dishwasher & fridge. Unfortunatly every time I need them I end up making dozens of call to 0844 numbers at my expense only to get nowhere! I have called 10 times today only to find out that the appointment one girl made at 1.30 today had never been made! I have never ever recieved any updated info from Currys in all 9yrs I have been paying for this service or lack of it! Has anyone else had these problems? Has anyone out there got a phone number for a complaints department?
    Thanks in advance Dx

Have you tried Say No to 0870? http://www.saynoto0870.com/
Put the number you have in there and see if it offers a free phone number or a basic dial number (plus other departments). Never pay for premium rate calls if you can avoid it.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Out of interest, how much do you pay for this cover?

I pay £9.99 a month that covers my Washer, dishwasher & my Fridge!

That makes coming up to £1080 for the past 9 years, have you had that much worth of repairs done on those items?

I would advise setting up a standing order and putting that money into another account, of your own, to cover things like this.

SandC has given great advice, if your disciplined and put the same amount away each month eg £9.99 you will build up a nice emergency pot. This can finance any other household emergencies as well.

    Very MSE

P.S It might be worth bunging an extra say £50 in the first month to boost the fund just in case your very unlucky and need to call out an engineer out before your fund has a bit of money in it.

P.P.S It would be worth asking around friends and colleagues to recommend a good washer / dishwasher and fridge engineer. Keep their number somewhere safe and then if they do break down you have the number of someone reliable to ring straight away rather than run the risk of a random person from the yellow pages.
  • Hello Everybody!

Like many others, I've had a Multicare Agreement for nearly ten years and have been frustrated by not being automatically sent newly revised contact numbers when they change, instead having to frantically search for these over the web.

However, as of September 2012, anyone needing support should call 0844 561 4000 for assistance and choose Option 4 on the menu: this will provide reasonably quick contact with an operator, at local call rates from a BT landline. Why on earth Dixons Group don't notify agreement holders on an annual basis this (or any changed) contact number is beyond me: you'll be hard pressed to find this number prominently displayed on any of the Group's websites!

OK, 'whinge' over! Actually, my experience over the last couple of years is that 'phoning this number works well: the operators are helpful and efficient and normally get you through to a local service engineer the same day.

Although I know that these kind of agreements have had a bad press over the last few years, I've found mine to be reasonably good value for money: they can be particularly good if you have several registered items over 10 years old that tend to have a higher frequency of faults: one of my repairs to a washing machine of this vintage, a few years ago, was costed at nearly the price of a new machine and was fully covered by the scheme without any quibble!
