Currys Multicare Insurance?

Hi Everyone,

I have a Currys Multicare Insurance policy to cover my Washer/Dishwasher & fridge. Unfortunatly every time I need them I end up making dozens of call to 0844 numbers at my expense only to get nowhere! I have called 10 times today only to find out that the appointment one girl made at 1.30 today had never been made! I have never ever recieved any updated info from Currys in all 9yrs I have been paying for this service or lack of it! Has anyone else had these problems? Has anyone out there got a phone number for a complaints department?

Thanks in advance
Dx

  • citizens advice or head office? Best of luck xx Consumer credit also
  • Once you get your house goods to be covered, by a simple insurance, you will see that in some cases like earthquakes, fires, you will not be getting a full compensation.
  • I’ve lost count of the number of complaints on these pages about the service from the Dixon/Currys/PCWorld group (all the same Company).
What is amazing is that people still shop at this Company despite all the bad press.
    When will it sink in??????????

  • Sadly I have had this insurance for the last 9yrs & as they have sent me NO paperwork since 2003 I cant get any details of where to complain to! Its like banging your head against a brick wall! Even when I have been given a telephone number to phone you get to th 5 min mark in the call & they cut you off! It happend 5 times yesterday! They are due to come tomorrow so fingers crossed! Once the washer is sorted I will try & cancel...

If it covers repairs, call out parts & replaces if can't be mended with a new item is that not insurance?

An Insurance Policy is heavily regulated by the FSA, which provides lots of protection to a consumer including a sales system designed to protect the consumer, a specific complaint procedure that the Insurer has to follow, that staff should be trained in the product and ensures the Insurer has sufficient solvency pay it's liabilities (Claims). It also has the protection of the Financial Ombudsman should you have a complaint about the Insurer. You are also protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme that guarantees all or the vast majority of your claim in the unlikely event the Insurer goes bankrupt.

Currys decided not to go down the route of their cover being Insurance, so you have bought a service agreement. They pay the money you pay after deducting their hefty commissions into a trust fund. You have none of the above protections and are relying on the trust fund having sufficient funds in it to meet the claims and if it does not your relying on Currys bailing it out.

Make your own mind up as to why Currys decided for their customers not to have the benefit of the protection of an insurance backed product

Well you learn something new every day! I was unaware of this! I think once they have been out & sorted out my washer I will have to rethink my cover! Thanks for your info!

Out of interest, how much do you pay for this cover?
