Dead appliance

Our kitchen appliance has died at 4 years and 9 months!

It had a 5 year guarantee through Domestic and General who cannot fix it!

They have said that they will replace it but with a similar same make model but it does not have the same features.

Problem is we bought the old one with a free 5 year guarantee and it was £399. The replacement offered is for sale for anywhere between £450 and £550 but the one of the nearest spec is £570 - £670 depending where you get it from. Still not quite the same as the one we got originally (quite a bargain at the time with wizzy display etc but the nearest model to that one is £700+!)

Advise appreciated please!

    Because I am paranoid!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:No, really!:D

    And of course any sensible reply should be good for all largish kitchen applicances not just fridges or washing machines!

    Come on then, No. Nothing to be scared of. Which appliance died? We need to know because some things don't last that long these days (washing machines) but others (fridges) will go for years.

  • Now come on boys and girls, I have to 'phone them up this PM with my answer!

    Said appliance (an AEG dishwasher), died and a more expensive replacement is being offered but it isn't as good as the dead one because I got a steaming bargain first time round. Exact replacement is £770 so that's a no go as the first one cost me £399 but can I stick out for a middle model as opposed to a bottom of the range one!?

    I would have thought it reasonable to expect yours to be replaced with a model of similar spec, regardless of original price. What's their reason for not offering an exact replacement, and what do the T&Cs of the guarantee say?
