Sainsburys Self Service Checkout Ripping Customers off

  • Have to say out of all the supermarkets my local Sainsbury's has the friendliest and most helpful staff.

    isn't that just the truth!

I do a split shop between Sa!nsbury's and Te$co's and Sa!nsbury's has the most helpful staff... they always look out back and walk you to any product you are looking for. Te$co however always have the shorter ques at the checkout!!! A LOT shorter!!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Sainsburys' checkout queues can vary from store to store, depending on the checkout manager and supervisors. My store's checkout manager is excellent and manages the queues well. Even if a colleague from the shop floor just serves one customer doing a £120 shop. Often hear tannoys for certain colleagues to attend checkouts.

Another Sainsburys, 15 miles away, is the largest supermarket for the town and there are always queues. I have never heard a tannoy for colleagues to attend checkouts.

At our store you have 1/3rd of the checkouts open, and 5 supervisory staff standing around talking to each other... and then 2 more herding people to the self checkouts.

At that store it is a big problem.

I use the fast track service with few issues though... I love it!

But I did once have to go over to the supervisors to grab their attention when out cue stopped and 2-3 minutes later they still hadn't noticed! It's a shame!

I will not disclose any details to you LIAR! Anyway, I have used other supermarket self scans and they do the exactly the same as Sainsburys - ie the discounts get knocked off at the end.

I think you need to keep your opinions to yourself and only write this if you have sound evidence that Sainsburys have ripped you off. I have used the ss tills dozens of times at countless stores - as my friends and family live across the UK and all times the offers have been knocked off at the end. The colleague attending the ss tills will tell you.

I gather you didn't read all of the post you quoted!

I do apologise. Though the OP needs to realise that if they think Sainsburys are ripping them off, then they should read the price tickets or the barkers (the large plastic offer tickets) and most of them will give a list of what is part of the offer. If they buy just one thing which isn't part of the offer, then the offer discount doesn't come off.

I had this with a idiotic rude cow just before Christmas and purchased a bottle of cognac and scotch thinking they are part of the 2 for £20. Erm, not when they are £26 and £35 a bottle respectively...

And that's why some supermarket staff have a bad name.

  • Our Sainsburys is a large superstore and seems to have a really low staff turnover, usually a good sign!! some of the staff have been there 15+ years, they are always polite and cheerful and many know you by sight and stop to say hello. Have found our local Tesco - which I pop into occasionally for offers - also friendly and polite :)

Sainsburys is manic at busy times, queues round the roundabout just to get into carpark, but they do manage queues very well in store, dont usually wait long and open more tills if needed, so keep it up JS!

Why do you say this? I never called her a rude, idiotic cow in the face. Why do us checkout staff get it in the neck from customers that don't read the offers/tickets properly?

If you are unsure what is part of the offer or not, ask a colleague.

My store was open 31 years ago and still have about 6 colleagues that have been there from the start - have been working longer for them than I and about 60 colleagues have been alive (my store is small. If you put the stores in terms of size - 1 being the smallest and 100 being the largest - the store will be at about 20.)
