Moving providers, advice please

I have decided to change from Plusnet broadband and homephone to Sky, mainly because I want Sky tv and have calculated that it will only cost me just under £10 per month more than I pay out now to get Sky TV if I switch broadband and phone to them too.
I have been with Plusnet for a year on 8th Feb.
Have seen an offer on Quidco of £50 cashback for joining Sky, but this expires 31 January.
Do I have to contact Plusnet to cancel or will that be dealt with by Sky? Don't really want a break in my phone line, but if I hang around will prob miss the Quidco deal.
Any advice please.
PS I have only praise for Plusnet as a provider, just want to get Sky TV so I can watch Nat Geo etc.

You can get sky tv through other ISPs virgin etc0

You get your MAC from Plusnet and give it to Sky.
Beware that if you are on Sky Connect rather than Sky LLU broadband, then you will most likely receive a dire service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hello - How can I check if it's LLU?
I was on Sky broadband a couple of years ago, a mile up road - don't know what type and it was relatively trouble free.
Postcode is LL13
thanks0 -
Do an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com, that will show if Sky is LLU on your exchange. or post your exchange name.
Not possible to search on a partial postcode. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi macman, it said sky is LLU enabled in my area since 13 july 2010.
thanks for that.0 -
So, assuming the exchange is not full for LLU, that is what you will be on.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

so am I right in thinking if I ring plusnet (my account has been active since 1 feb 10), I can tell them I want to cancel wef from 31 january 2011?
in the meantime, would I be able to go through quidco and order sky ie. BEFORE 31 jan, when the deal ends?
Do i have to contact sky with a mac code?
Will plusnet supply me with a mac code automatically?
thank you0 -
No, don't cancel Plusnet unless you want to incur a cease charge and have a break in service.
Ask Plusnet for your MAC (they have 5 working day to supply it), then use it by giving it to Sky within 30 days, otherwise it expires. Sky arrange the transfer and confirm the date.
However once you know that date it is always a good idea to contact your existing ISP and reconfirm that you are leaving.
Just bear in mind that going LLU will lock you into Sky, if you ever want to leave them then you will have to do a 'return to donor' back to BT line rental for 12m-you cannot go direct from one LLU to another. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
