The 'no more overbuying pet food' challenge

If I see dry dog food or chews on special then I'll buy it if long shelf life and store it in the garage till I'm needing it. It's only worth doing though, if its food you know your dog will eat (one of will scoff anything, the other can be fussy). It's been handy during the recent snow to know that I didnt need to do an emergency shop for dog food!
The rabbit food and hay is rarely on special offer, so I just buy that when I'm running low - although I've got plenty in stock right now in case of any more bad weather.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
I never thought of using bad weather as a reason to buy more...

Actually, joking aside, that's a good point and that was good for me with the snow to have stuff in reserve.
EDIT
Have just totalled up what I have: :eek:
Large bags of dry food (2,3&4kg sizes): 16 (8 of which need eating by end June 2011 - just about doable)
Pouches: 61 (includes special diet food)
Cans: 3
Tetra cartons: 64 (our staple evening meal so we go through this quite fast)
Packs of treats: 23 :eek::eek:
TASKS:
-Make sure we use the 2011 dry food first
-sort out which treats the cats actually eat
-pass some surplus treats onto someone else
-don't go onto zooplus for any more special reduction food until I need to!
-hide in a corner in shame:o
On the positive side - I've not got to buy cat food for a while so that'll save me some money for a few months!:A0 -

catslovelycats I will pm you back!
But I have to ask a question.....do I SEEM like the kind of woman who would not have a suitable array of cat treats on offer to compliment my wet food selection? ( crazy laugh )
I have Fish Thrive, chicken Thrive and also prawn flavour ( not so popular ) so the diabetic cat can get a snack.
Non diabetic cats in the family quite like Thomas biscuits, or Whiskas temptations so I have a variety of those. Webbox? " 2 varieties
I have De-furrum treats, Vermexx worming treats !! and also various malt/vitamin pastes in a semi-medicinal range.
I could go on....but am aware that I am exposing a definite shopping problem for which I may seek counselling.0 -
I have 3kg of canary food. Cedrick eats a small bowl - probably no more than 20g - a day.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I suffer from this terrible addiction too and have 4 x 4kg sacks of dry (they only snack on dry as they have wet food for breakfast and dinner) and enough wet to last over four months. I won't count the treats but can't help throwing a pack of Dreamies in the trolley everytime I go to the supermarket despite having a cupboard full already

I recently dropped off several bags of dry at the local RSPCA too as there was no way my two cats would eat it in time before it reached it's best before date. I don't feel quite as bad about over-buying as at least some rescue cats got to benefit from my addiction!
P.s I blame Zooplus and the Pets at Home BOGOF offers

I dropped off a mixed box of catfood at my local shelter just before xmas. Coupled with the Zooplus obsession I have, my OH's dad has been staying for a few months and he adores the cats (read as he buys at least one pack of treats plus wet/dry food per day!)
My cats are fussy b00gers and don't like half of the food OH's dad buys and I literally couldn't fit any more in the cupboard so passed it all on!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
I've got too large 10kg bags of food that my cats ate when we tried the small bags but now they won't touch!!
I'll ask local cat place if they'd like opened bags of food. Thanks for the idea posters!0 -
I used to bulk buy catfood - but she's got so faddy lately I can't anymore - if I stock up on something on special... bam - won't eat that one anymore. I DO bulk buy dog food (again that Pets At Home stuff is on BOGOF at present - they're changing the packaging on it is the woman on the till's theory as to why) since the dog appears to have less exacting and changing standards than the cat.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
