  • My university degree... I sometimes wonder if I was better off going straight into a job after college!
    Competition Wins:

    Glee Goodie Bag!
  • I remember one sunny morning back in 2008 on my way to work I brought a 3 pack of Durex Featherlite buy one get one free at Boots in Borehamwood - happy days. Checking my voicemails at lunchtime my girlfriend leaving a message saying 'we needed to talk' - not so happy days.

Needless to say they were never used - infact I think they may have even expired by now - nevermind! lols :P

    1. Driving lessons with an instructor I didn't like were a waste of money - in hindisght I should have got rid of him sooner instead of wating about £700!
    2. Gym memberships - waste of money as never went and was tied into a contract so had to fork out for quite a while- ouch!
    3. I had 3 abortive purchases which fell through for various reasons - cost me to the tune of £2500 in legal and survey fees :(
    4. Taking on a Cemap Course just as the mortgage market crash £800
    5. My degree - wasted thousands - as employers seem more interested iin experience than academia. The value of a degree has diminished since our parent's days as everyone's got one now and not just the priveliged.
    6. Lent a uni friend £320 to pay for her rent - she never paid me back - careful when lending money to friends I guess

I think also need to be very careful if taking up a new hobby which involves a cash outlay i.e. courses etc - as last thing you want to do is lose interest having forked out the money
  • I bought an on line course with TRAIN ONLINE for 3k @ £75per month for a Cisco accredited network course that was a BIG waste of time and money TRAIN ONLINE failed to keep their course updated only I realised it was the wrong course for me after the 14 day refund period Would NOT recommend Train online.
  • I bought a Hyundai. Unbelievably unreliable and the guarantee was worthless. After it broke down the third time the selling dealer wouldn't even take it back in for repair. Never again!
  • Not buying a train ticket in advance. Thought that there would be no ticket check as there often wasn't but had to pay £45.00 instead of £11.00. Not much but money was short at the time and it still makes me feel a bit gutted and silly!
  • If anyone is thinking of buying a Motorhome I would recommend hiring one for 2 or 3 trips first. The fairly high and possibly wasted cost of hiring (say £1,000 per week) is far less than the depreciation involved in purchasing one new and then selling it second hand and is preferable to the many thousands of pounds lost (in my case £17,000 over 3 years) when circumstances dictate that the life is not for you.

Deciding to live in university halls of residence for my first year at university. I moved in in September, quickly grew to hate it and have now moved in with my boyfriend, but I can't get out of my contract with uni (unless I can find another university student to move in - which I can't, everyone has somewhere to live!) so I'm stuck paying for my room until June. More than £4000 for Sept-June, which apart from being such a rip off, is such a colossal waste of money. It depresses me to think about it but it was a mistake and I have to live with it :(
Best wins: Tefal pan set, microwave, £500 shopping vouchers, £500 Princesse Tam Tam vouchers, £100 cash

    :T
  • 1. freeview box that never worked as I am in a poor signal area
    2. expensive M&P pramette that should have accomodated my son until he was 4 - at 18 months the straps were too tight
    3. divorce - cost more to divorce than it did to marry
    4. leg-o-matic (or something like that) looked great on one of the shopping channel - still sitting in the shed
    4. vibrating pad thing - you stand on and shake yourself fit - hated the sensation and its sitting in the shed next to the leg-o-matic
    5. carl lewis ski-walker thing - geat intentions - yes thats in the shed too!
    6. Mulberry Bayswater bag - received an email offering 25% off - good deal so brought the bag. Never been used - still in the packaging as I don't like "new" bags.

the list could go on and on and on ......................
There are only two things a child will share willingly - communicable diseases and their mother's real age
  • I have 2 biggies, but funnily enough I regret the one that cost me less £ more!

    1. Moving in with a stranger, who turned out to be a bit of a nutter. Took off at the end of the lease, unbeknown to me she had not paid her half of the rent in a while, trashed her room and hadn't paid council tax. She owes me about £1000 not seen her in years, debt collectors 'couldn't find her'. I've written that off as a lesson learned.

    2. Opening a shop. I did this on a whim, tired of it (it was a lonely job) after 6 months, left with debts of about £8k. Low interest though, that helps ease the pain!
