They treat you like mushrooms keep you in the dark and feed you bulls***.
Very good timing as I have just finished my very first temp stint with a well known Payroll Agency and found the above couldn't be truer particularly about being kept in the dark.
I know they are a business, but I think they need us as much as we need them and they could have at least pretended they were dealing with a human being instead of a pawn on a chess set to be moved around wherever and whenever they wanted (as if it had nothing to do with us) just to benefit their profits.

I would not bother with them if I were you. I have had countless bad experiences with these useless agencies - the last incident I had being the WORST one I have ever had (e.g. they wasted my time, built my hopes up of a job, ignored my calls etc.). And that incident was the last straw for me, I can tell you. I will never use these agencies ever again, and will just confine my job search to the employers themselves.

At the end of the day, of course, it is up to you whether you want to use them or not, but as I say, I would never recommend them to anyone.

    Morning all,

I’ve been applying for a lot of jobs lately as of redundancy before Christmas and am now looking for a project manager role. Whilst I’ve done well(ish) applying directly to companies, recruitment consultants have been a real stumbling block (i belive this is partly due to the number of CV's they receive and partly as jobs seem to be left online after the positions have been filled).

I wondered what your thoughts were on whether it is actually worth going in to visit a recruitment consultant to make yourself stand out from the crowd and prove you’re a good candidate?

Some time ago, my girlfriend applied for a temp job and had to visit a recruitment agency. I sat in reception and watched person after person turn up in an embarrassing state (for example an hour late or with their CV crumpled up in their pocket). As I’ve been told that so many people are applying for jobs, I wondered whether a quick visit would set me apart from these candidates and if, due to the number of job seekers these days, a recruitment consultant would not be able to afford me the time for such a meeting.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Ian
