I was just giving the OP some very good advice.

After all it is about helping people & being constructive.

So character assassinations are constructive then?

It is the difference of opinions based on others peoples personal experience(s) which assists an individual to decide what action to take going forward in respect of job hunting - the old adage forewarned is forearmed comes to mind and many on here offer great advice and warnings based on their dealings with agencies - in particular for those who have never been out of work before or have never used a recruitment agency.

It is also very constructive to offer advice from both sides of the coin, but why is it when the contentious subject of agencies raises its head, you insist on hammering everyone who does not conform to your mindset?

I don't like agencies - that is common knowledge on here and my experiences are well documented on these forums. Yes, I will be critical of agencies - but why persist in slating individuals on here who have also had negative experiences with them? Hardly constructive and very unhelpful for the OP IMO.

There is a difference between recruitment agencies and recruitment consultants in the level of positions they recruit for. In general, go to agencies for lower level positions and for temps and go to recruitment consultants for managerial and professional level. There are hundreds of niche recruitment consultants.
Executive Grapevine is a subscription only online directory of recruitment consultants. Ask within your network if anyone you know has access to it. Business schools offering MBAs may subscribe.

    Pleasure.

LilyDeTilly RaceyRed & Andy46 (or is it 47 or 48 or 49) should be completely ignored by all sensible people looking to further their careers

Taking an old disagreement onto a new thread is really quite pathetic.

Agreed. Didn't even realise that a certain person had been 'following' me around MSE in order to criticise all my posts.

I am impressed with the MSE mods though, they have taken it seriously when I've drawn their attention to my 'cyber-bully'. If he/she carries on with the personal attacks, it won't be long before they are banned :T

Speaks the person who started the following around, stalking & bullying.

Hope your reporting goes well. Keep it up.

  • I'd just be very wary of most recruitment consultants. Don't tell them too much. Play your cards close to your chest. If, while they're "looking" for work for you, you happen to go for a job you've found privately, DONT whatever you do, let the consultant know where the job is, or the name of the company!

What kind of project manager are you - public/private sector, IT, construction, organisational change etc?

I would recommend doing a bit of research into who are the best agencies (no difference between agencies and consultancies, it's just different names) for your line of work, and who are engaged with the kinds of employers you would want to work for.

You don't want to waste your time with agencies who focus on call centre/admin/industrial type roles, because that's the kind of jobs they will put you forward for.

Project management tends to be quite tight - if possible I'd exploit any networks you have and find out how other PMs got their jobs. It's even better if you can call a consultant by name, and say that your former colleague, business contact, friend recommended you speak to them.

It's true that recruitment consultants are sales people, but the good ones will recognise a good candidate who will earn them fees. If they think you will impress their client then they will look after you well.

(I think PasturesNew is a PM and works through agencies, she might be able to give you some pointers)

    Best of luck!

Excellent advice. No need for them to know whatsover.
