People make decision based on what they read on this board, how are they supposed to know you are joking or not?

Whilst I agree that some of the replies posted on MSE are not always helpful to the person who posts the questions most posters do have the common-sense to sort the wheat from the chaff and the forum would be the poorer if humour was banned.

Surely it's a case of 'caveat emptor' in that no one should really make any financial decisions on what they read on the internet here or anywhere else, most people who post here do their best to give good helpful advice but it's down to the OP to decide for themselves whether or not they act on such advice, indeed I am sure that MSE does warn against making financial decisions on what one reads in the forum!

I have £1000 to do something with. I could put it in an ISA but i'm prepared to do something a little more risky with it in order to get a better return.

What is the best thing to do with it?

Well one risky thing you could do is buy £1000 or premium bonds with it, the risk is that you are unlikely to make any interest at all however you do have a very slim chance to win £1,000,000!

However you will at least keep your stake even if you make nowt on it!
  • If you look at the chances of winning with premium bonds you would probably think twice. Chances are you will win absolutely nothing. I'd be investing in 'The Naked Trader', swatting up on shares and shoving the £1000 on a share that shows good signs of growth. I could suggest shares but my track record is unproven so I won't. I have recently shoved £2000 of savings into 3 shares hoping for long term growth.
If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused

    which 3 shares?
  • Some good advice would be to make friends with someone who has a track record of being successful with money then copy what they do.

This seems to be lacking as you are asking random strangers on a website for advice.

And not someone who is all talk. Try to find someone who has self-made wealth and has a track record. They'll be over 40 and very knowledgable.

Remember the Woody Allen Quote "Stockbrokers are people who keep investing your money until it's all gone"

I would probably put it in the bank and leave it. Haha, probs not actually. I would go on a mini shopping spree and spend it. Easy come, easy go.
