You need to put it into context. If you are planning on moving within the year, then it is worthwhile giving your bathroom a refurb. However it may not be cost effective to do say a partial tiling eg around the bath and sink. This will save you money on tiles and labour. The remaining walls can be painted in neutral / complimentry colours. Full tiling looks good but isn't to everyones taste.

If you can afford it, get underfloor heating fitted as it's so nice to have floor tiles that aren't cold. It'll also add a little background heating. The square meter age isn't big ever in a bathroom
Oh and make sure you get an illuminated mirror - much better for shaving/makeup

or just use enough decent spots that can be angled but do get de-mister pads fitted to the mirrors

What do you plan on doing and how old is the property?

It's a 1960 bungalow. There is a loo in a small room, and then a bathroom with loo, basin and bath with shower over. When the wall between is removed and also we take a bit of a cupboard down it will be about 3m x 2.3m and I hope to have a separate shower as well as a bath and a basin. Wickes are coming round tomorrow and Homebase on Friday, although I dount we will have them install. There are two windows, one small one in the current loo and one in the bathroom.

    All advice welcome :-)

Looking for inspiration too. Anyone with any more photos? We are re-doing our shower room. We have knocked down a cupboard wall which housed the tank before we got a combi boiler. We have ordered a white suite and gloss white units. We have still to pick the work top and flooring.
We went looking at tiles today thinking we wanted white perhaps with a touch of grey but were immediately drawen to BEIGE!!! Our familty toilet is BEIGE. I kind of wanted something a bit differant but OH does not just want all white tiles, and I started having doubts about the grout discolouring and being more noticable with white tiles. The tiles and patterns we liked are not unlike the two toilets featured on this thread.

Wish I had taken before and after photos of our toilets and kitchen. The family toilet had a grey suite with pink tiles and grey and pink flowers. The en-suite which we are doing now had a washed out pink suite...lovely!

I'd be tempted to just tile around bath/shower and basin and paint the rest of the walls. I am not a fan of full tiling - too much condensation, expense and can look a little like everyone else's.
We are currently working on ours tiny bathroom. I sourced a small but deep bath from the bathstore £150 ish and got the taps in the sale at focus for £10. The tiles are large white ones (!) and the side of the bath will be tiled with slate (Given). The floor will be stained and varnished wood. The walls are BRIGHT yellow! We have also installed a huge mirror over the bath/loo to add the feeling of space and a glass shower screen. The bathroom feels much larger and is a fun place to be. 3 spot lights are too much in there so we one is always out!
If you opt for plain white they are cheaper, and less 'offensive' to prospective buyers. Our yellow paint can be quickly re-done in the future and means we can change the feel very easily. I hope that helps.

Well we have a plan from Wickes now and are getting one from Homebase later today - it looks like we can fit in a 900mm quadrant shower as well as a bath basin and loo. Wickes stuff doesn't look brilliant quality/design though. Also plan to get a quote from Grahams.

Thanks sugarwalsh. The room we are doing is only a shower room. We plan to have a mirror the width of the wall above the hand basin and toilet so there is not a lot of wall left.
Also plan to get a quote from Grahams.

We got our kitchen from Grahams.

We have bought our shower enclosure tray and othe toilet furniture from City Plumbing, our plumber kindly passed on his trade discount. When we do buy our tiles we intend going for the large ones fitted vertically and staggered. There is an advet on telly at the minute for showers and thats where I saw the tiles fitted in this way.

I will be puting vynyl or amtico on the floor. I don't want tiles.

Never underestimate lighting within any room in the home!

I bought a shaving light mirror for the bathroom and made a massive difference in feel... Makes me want to shave more now too ;)

I agree, angled spots will NOT light your face well - you need the light to be coming from the mirror side, not from behind you!
Not a big job for an electrician to run a cable for the mirror light esp if access above in the loft and you're getting the walls tiled - all damage will be hidden!

After our kitchen is finished, our next job will be the downstairs loo and the ensuite, so I think I will kepp popping here for inspiration too!

This tap caught my eye the other day, would be quite interesting in the downstairs loo, thinking of having a small wash stand or semi recessed basin with it..
