Bathroom Inspiration Needed!!

Hi all,

We are soon to be knocking our current seperate toilet and bathroom into one room. It is the original bathroom that was installed with the house in the 60's, high level cistern with a chain and cast iron bath! and apart from paint it hasn't been touched since

We have lived with it for 4 years and with the possibility of moving house in the next year or so becoming more of a reality we have decided to get it sorted out.

Its never going to be the biggest room in the world (about 6ft by 10ft) and we have got the suite. Its white and square style but am having a real job with inspiration for the taps and tiles.

Is fully tiled the better option? or just around the bath?
Big tiles vs small tiles, what will make the room look a bit bigger?

DH really likes the beige/sandy coloured tiles but I am concerned that it will make the space appear smaller.

There is a big window that will let in lots of light, but am really stuck for ideas!

Any thoughts most welcome!

Thank You

with a small room always use light colored tiles, and generally the smaller the better.
i would tile the whole room.
    thats just my preference though.

I've just had mine done - here

I have coffee coloured castle travertine floor tiles and beige wall tiles with a stoneworks border - sort of around dado height.

I decided to have my room fully tiled; I now have a p shaped bath with a shower screen. That way I have no walls to paint. My tiles are 6" square.

Suite's white. I also asked for the BIGGEST towel rail that my boiler would support - who wants a cold bathroom?

    It looks lovely!

    Thanks for your suggestions!

Valli your bathroom looks lovely, what a difference it makes! That towel rail is gorgeous. There is no heating in our bathroom at the moment, its freezing and I hadn't considered a towel rail on the central heating so thanks for that idea!

We knocked our airing cupboard and bathroom through to enable us to have a seperate shower. Our bathroom is tiny! I think it was about 6' square and now is obviously that plus the airing cupboard on the side. I was really worried about choosing beige tiles but I hate white tiles as they feel cold and clinical to me-personal choice though. Having done the bathroom with the beige tiles I couldn't be more pleased. It's always going to be a tiny bathroom but I absolutely love it.

oooh! Becs your bathroom is gorgeous too!!

Thanks guys, this is so helpful.

Becs did your tiles come from an independent place or one of the big stores?

I agree with white being too clinical, my parents have a white bathroom after years of having a wood cladded bathroom and I need sunglasses going in there its so bright!!

Can I tag along too please - thanks for all these good ideas. Any views on costs/where best to buy etc? We are knocking a separate loo and part of a cupboard into our bathroom and so will have about 3 metres by 2.3 metres and I hope to get in a separate shower as well as a bath.

What do you plan on doing and how old is the property?

    Hi BeauBelle,

The large tiles came from Peterborough tile store and the moasaics from a small specialist shop. We saw very similar tiles to the large ones after we'd done the bathroom in Wickes.

If you can afford it, get underfloor heating fitted as it's so nice to have floor tiles that aren't cold. It'll also add a little background heating. The square meter age isn't big ever in a bathroom
Oh and make sure you get an illuminated mirror - much better for shaving/makeup
