Anyone Still Cycling To Work In This Weather?

Just wondering as my 2 Bikes are tucked up for the time being, I have a Trek road Bike I use for leisure and a Trek City bike I use to cycle to work. Been way too icy/dangerous to use either and I'm missing using them :-( .
If still cycling to work how are you finding the conditions and what bike or bikes are you using. Does the salt and grit cause problems?

I have bottled out of cycling to work too. Did the best part of 1000 miles commuting last year but cycling seems to have stopped early december. Worked out so far with the petrol price increases its costing £1.92 per round trip to work this year as opposed to £1.65 last year this time, and have gained half a stone in weight. Keep seeing a few guys bravely riding through the weather, and feeling guilty.

I hear you, I actually stay exactly one mile from my work but would never cycle straight there or back, prefering to take 20-30min routes instead. My problem just now is it's all down hill to my work with a roundabout half way.
Mid Nov I almost died trying to stop for this roundabout with road tyres and a light frost.. Put me right off cycling at this time of year.
Thing is in Paisley every day I see at least 3 people cycling most days and apart from thinking how mad they are I'm a wee bit Jealous of them.
As for fuel costs....aaarrrggghhh that's all I can say, TDCI Focus averaging 37.5mpg instead of my usual 55 on long Journeys.

My gf's mum is still cycling everday (in London). Personally I think she's mad to do so in the low light though.

That is mad, but atleast if you get stuck its easier to move a bike than a car!
  • Yeah, I'm still cycling (about half the time at least). I did stop during the realy cold weather as it was too icy but I've started again since.

The only bad thing about cycling at this time of year is that the bike gets covered in all sorts of carp. It took me a good while to clean my bike at the weekend.
  • I used to do my paper round on my bike in the snow when I was a kid. :D

Never gave it a second thought back then. Now I'd be two scared of slipping off.

I cycled in the first round of snow in London last month, but then caught a cold and bottled out for the rest of the month.

Just tried to get back in the saddle this morning and the chain snapped! My bike is overdue a lot of TLC, methinks...

One guy in our office cycles in every day. He reckons he does at least 10,000 miles a year on his bikes. I think he's mad!
