cabin bag for Ryanair and liquids on flights

With your onboard luggage the weight allowance is 10kg, make sure you stick to this, as many times I've seen people being forced to either wear half there clothes or put there luggage into the hold. Annoying thing is they don't weigh your case until you're at the boarding gate, ready to board the plane!
I'd always advise sticking to the 10kg limit, just in case, but if you are a regular traveller & willing to take the risk, not all airports have scales at the gates. So, with online check-in, you can often get away without having hand baggage weighed at all. They all seem to have measuring cages for hand baggage at the gates though. As long as you can fit your (one) bag into the cage, you should be OK - even if you have to wedge it in. Removing it, once wedged in, can be tricky though!0 -
... but then you lose a chunk of your new found savings unless you know exactly how to force Ryanair to debit your card in Euros rather than in pounds when you book that return legAlso book your outbound and return flights seperately. You then pay for your return flights in euros which saves around 15%.

1. Please can anyone recommend a suitable bag, I'll only be carrying hand luggage and want to take the biggest allowable one (55 x 40 x 20cm)
The best bag that I have found is the Medium Flylite Foldaway Bag - http://www.flylite.uk.com/Lightweight-Luggage-Solutions.aspx It exactly fits to the Ryanair size limits and only weighs about 800g. I have also found that when it is packed full, it weighs about 10kg.
Many of the 'trolley' cases that are advertised as being within the size limits are not, as they do not include the wheels or handle in the size. As others have said, if you are buying one of these measure it before buying, since if it doesn't fit in the cage, Ryanair will charge you. And even if you do find one that really does fit in the Ryanair size, even a lightweight trolley case will weigh 3 or 4kg empty. So you have lost 30 or 40% of your baggage limit before you start.0
