Pleaswe Help needed with iPhone 4 and O2

Hi
Can anyone help?
I've had an iPhone since they came out and I've always been with O2.
Since purchasing the iPhone 4 in July, I've never been able to get reception at home (apart from one room) with it despite my previous iPhones not having any problems at all.
My brother is on o2 with an iPhone 3GS and gets full reception at home and my mum has a standard nokia with o2 and get full reception. When I put my sim card in my brother's phone, it gets full reception.
I'm now on my third iPhone 4 handset. I originally bought an iPhone 4 when living in Birmingham and didn't have any problems with reception until I visited home (where I'd have none)
The first handset had problems with the proximity sensor. Second had a problem with hardware and now I've returned home, this one has a serious problem with reception.
As I'm self employed, I'm having to run a pay as you go mobile along side my contract phone so I don't miss any calls.
I've spoken to o2 and they say that I have to return the phone to an o2 store where it'll be sent to be returned or replace (this could take up to 10 working days)
They also say if I have problems with reception again, it's been authorised to be exchanged for a similar handset.
My natural reaction to that is; I initally entered into a £40+ contract a month to save money on the initial handset price (over £200) I don't want another handset, I just want one that works. Also, due to the fact I paid over £200 for a phone and they're now offering to replace it with a handset which would have been free if I wanted one in the first place, it doesn't really wash.
Where do I stand on cancelling my contract? Do I have an arguement that they're paid to provide me with a service with a phone I've bought from them which they aren't delievering? Or is that wishful thinking?
Needless to say, it would appear that the iPhone 4 simply doesn't get reception where I live so I think the third handset may be a waste of time.
Any help, info or advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks
(P.S. all software is up to date. I'm had a new sim card and it's been restored etc)

It may just be the iPhone 4 which has been slammed for poor aerial placement affected by holding it "incorrectly" since it was released. This is why Apple gave away free bumpers to combat the issue initially. I have an iPhone 4 and know several other people that do and none of us have experienced reception problems. However the point remains. You may simply find that an iPhone 4 won't work for you where you live. Sorry.0

Yeah, I've been using the bumper since I got it but it still doesn't make any difference.
I did a signal check before I bought one and that wasn't a problem. The mast is only 1km away.
You say it might just be iPhone 4's but I don't know where that leaves me? I can't simply accept it doesn't work and carry on paying nearly £50 a month.

No network provider will guarantee signal within any structure or even guarantee UK wide coverage, your problem is about signal within your home, O2 can do nothing about it.
All handsets work and preform differently, as you've mentioned the 3GS getting a full reception and a nokia getting a full reception this will be why they've offered you an alternative handset which you don't need to accept, you can just stick with your iPhone 4.
If you want your handset repaired or replaced they can do this for you, but if another iPhone 4 doesn't solve your issue then maybe it would be worth considering another handset?
You're not going to be able to cancel your contract unless they allow you to do this as a goodwill gesture.0 -

I would think about a blackberry as they are solid phones. Yeah they have buttons, yes they have a retro browser but what they do get right is with the emails and push tech. I have a base model 8520. Which I got from my missus. Before that I had an iphone 3g which was a great phone and my life was on it. My reception too was rubbish and it was unusable at home where by chance your most likely to use a mobile, well that was the case for me.
I called o2 and they did nothing and told me about the terms I had signed. Then whilst using my phone at home basically like an ipod touch, it broke as when I was listening to tunes on my running machine, sweat killed it. Water damage. So I sold it on ebay.
After the sale my partner got a new phone and gave me hers, so I asked o2 to switch me to a blackberry tarriff at the same price. I got 300 more minutes with the deal and the option to downgrade. One month I went down to 20 a month which isn't possible on an iphone tariff.
Now that I have a blackberry I am not going back. I want to upgrade a top range bold soon.
Although I am ditching o2 because of there change in the downgrade tariff policy which currently means if I downgrade I lose my blackberry bolt on which is sly.
I'm moving to Vodafone via e2save to get one with 1000 mins ultd text bolt on and £40 everty 3-4 months once I've been signed up for a while with a new phone, this is by redemption. This is in addition to flogging my current handset which I will plow onto my bill essentially giving me several months of free phone calls.
The best advice I can give is get a mate with a blackberry to come around. You will see they have full reception and more than likely 3g on full bars. Ditch the obsession with the hunk of plastic as that is apples marking ploy to turn you into a sheep and get a real phone that does the business without the need for additions and add on's to make it half function. Not to mention updates that eventually make your phone grind to a holt. You can be saved trust me I did it.:cool:The harder one works the luckier one gets!0 -
I've never had any problem with reception on my iPhone 4. It doesn't always show full bars, but it doesn't matter if it shows 1 or 5, what matters is that it doesn't drop calls, which it doesn't.0
