put your serial no. into the full text search and it brings up your drivers

I would update all the drivers from there

I've tried that and I installed the network driver from the list but it hasn't helped. My serial number is shown in my first post - it only brings up about eight or nine drivers and I downloaded the one possible that I thought it could be.

    Try this

    http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/OTHER-NETWORK-CARDS/Q-Tec-590N-PCI-Network-Card-Driver-11.shtml

If it doesn't work, take the case off and have a look at the network card to see which model it is.

I've downloaded that and transferred it across to my machine. I've then unzipped the files into a folder but I can't actually see an exe file to install. What should I be looking for?
Just before you unzip the files it is telling me to make sure that all old drivers are uninstalled.

    an inf file maybe.

    did you download an exe?

this may not be the correct card, to be sure you either need to look at the card (assuming it is in a pci slot, not onboard), or find the instance id.

Did the machine come with a driver cd?

If you have unzipped the files to a folder on your desktop, go back to device manager... right click on the ethernet controller and click update device driver.

Then browse to the folder on your desktop and it should find the driver (not all drivers require exe files to install)

let me know how you get on :)

I used the only back up cd that came with the computer. This appears to have added the drivers for the cd rom and the usb and various other bits but not the four things mentioned (most importantly - the ethernet). I'll take the cover off later and have a look at the network card.

It just comes up and says "No driver installed as none found" when I browse through those folders.

Are you trying to connect wireless or wired ?
Get SIW and ID your network adapter - http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

Yeh if you download SIW and click on the network connections it should give you a list of the network adapters in your system...

If you list the models here it will assist us in helping you get the right driver for your adapter
