Hi
I need to download a free Broadband useage monitor, now that I have transferred to a capped rate and have received the dreaded email saying "You are close to your limit (aka your children spend too much time on Youtube) ", and wondered if there were any recommendations ?
Something simple but accurate would suffice.....
Many thanks
Claire

Assuming you use Windows then http://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/ is good.
If you have multiple PCs it can combine the figures and you can exclude local network traffic.
Nothing I know of other than selecting a router which supports firmware that can monitor and record usage will account for any usage by games consoles, video streamers, etc.0 -
Netmeter is one I've used from time to time, don't bother now as I'm unlimited.

Have used 'Netmeter' for quite a while now and can't fault it.0

I installed Netmeter when I was with BT but as it doesn't monitor gaming there was no point really.0

Why do you think it doesn't monitor gaming?0 -
Hi GRM, I installed it when I was with BT and somehow managed to go over my usage allowance every month, even when I was on holiday! I downloaded it to monitor my usage so I could query my bill with BT, when I did I was told it didn't monitor PS3 or Xbox360. I then checked, I think it was on here and was told the same thing. In one month Netmeter said I only used 2GB which I know can't be right.0

Hardly surprising is it? the monitor is only capable of monitoring the usage of the computer its installed on.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

As I said back in post #2 the only way you'll monitor things like games consoles is by doing so at the router level - e.g. Tomato firmware (amongst others) can do this but it can't be installed on all routers.

If your router supports SNMP then a machine running PRTG (or MRTG on Linux) can do so too but would need to run 24x7 to catch all the traffic.
ISPs that impose caps should also provide a means to monitor your usage on their websites imo - some do and some don't.0 -
Another vote for Netmeter. Never had a problem with it.Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
