Miller & Carter - dress code for children!!

There is a new steakhouse opened and on friday night hubby decided we would go after perusing the menu on the internet and it saying how they welcome families, so off we set for the 10 mile journey.
When we got there, there was a woman ranting and raving as she was coming out but we walked past them, went in only to be greeted by a girl who informed us we would not be allowed in as my little boy had tracksuit trousers on (i beg to differ this as i would not consider them to be tracksuit pants just ordinary cotton pants).
Hubby asked to speak to the manager and told him what he thought i also said i thought it ridiculous to have a dress code for children especially at 5.30 in the evening, i can understand a dress code for adults maybe at night if they are trying to create a certain image but they portray themselves as a family orientated place!!!!!

just wondered if anyone else has heard of dress codes in places for kids?

Owned by Mitchells and Butlers - a complaint to Chief Exec won't go amiss. I don't mind a dress code, but they should let people know about it.

Was there anything on the website about a dress code?

(Did you get in or not by the way?)

Their rules I suppose but not publicising them is a bit naughty.

This is the sort of story that the local papers love. Should you wish to unburden yourself to one of course.;)

Seems a bit OTT to me. Have never heard of a family friendly steak house having a dress code before.

As others have said it's their decision at the end of the day but I'd still take it to the local press.

It's also the right of families to decide do not go to the miller and carter steakhouse.

Wait until the search engines pick up on this thread!!

    ************UPDATE**************
Hubby had a phonecall last night from the manager of the outlet village where the steakhouse is, and basically their attitude was "well i ams orry this happened to you but tough thats our decision and we are standing by it" so think a letter to the foody at the local rag is in order.
