Anybody tried to claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

After being quite badly injured at work, I was speaking to one of my nurses who advised me that I should try to claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB). I have just read up on it on the net and have submitted the completed forms.
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of such benefit, how long the decision making process takes, and what the medical entails?:o

OK, this is a copy and paste from my blog, so excuse it if doesn't flow very well, I was writing abour DLA and IIDB together. I'm only pasting the relevant bits. While online, I also found another benefit I was eligible for, so I rang up for the form and a few days later, a massive 40+ page book came through my letterbox. I started to plough through them. They wanted so much information, it felt very intrusive... and months later an appointment to have a medical for the other one.
I went to my doctor to let him know I’d been rejected, and found out he hadn’t been contacted for a report! My counsellor told me that there is a law centre in every London borough with a welfare rights advisor. I found my one and went for an interview, and she agreed to take on my case.
The other one actually went all the way to tribunal. The medical appointment was a complete farce. From the time I got there, the doctor had an attitude about my perceived lateness (I was early, my letter proved her wrong which seemed to anger her more), and threatened to get my driving license revoked if I couldn’t move my head more. I left the office in tears and hurting from all the poking and prodding. I was not surprised when I read her scathing report accusing me of faking my pain.
Anyway the tribunal was quick and relatively painless and nearly 11 months after I applied, I was approved for disablement benefit.Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
I've just sent the forms off so I'll post back on here if I hear anything. Thanks for both of your infoDFW'ers photography comp member no. 60

I have always accompanied my friend to her medicals for industrial injuries, she has a permanent spinal problem.
The medicals she had were straight forward and the doctors were pleasant enough.
It was awarded without any problems however took about six months before she heard anything.
They do seem to have to collect a lot of information before they make a decision but I suppose that's only natural.0 -
Never had a problem - The medical was just a through examination, but to be honest they looked after me.
I think it depends on who you get and what sort of day they are having.:(0 -

I'm not sure Jock..... I was advised to try by my solicitor. My injuries are from a traffic accident, so slightly different from yours, but I guess you could fill in the forms and see?DFW'ers photography comp member no. 60

I guess that provided you have documented proof that your health problem was work related you should'nt have a problem.
I don't think there is any time limit for claims but I may be wrong.
No harm in trying though is there.
They can only say no.
Good luck.0 -
