BT for line rental ?

Hi All,

Our local exchange has just been upgraded with LLU and we can now get the Sky Talk and unlimited broadband package at about £30 p/m less than the BT deal because we're already Sky+ customers.
A bigger saving comes from us taking the Sky line rental instead of the BT one.

In the past, we've shied away from NOT having BT as the main line provider. There's horror stories about other providers passing problems back to BT, and then they take their time about addressing issues... 'it's not their customer'... etc..

Is this still the case in other people's experience, or is it now perfectly acceptable to have another line provider other than BT ?

Where we live, the only 'physical' lines come via BT, but as the local exchange is now unbundled with Sky is it worth saving a couple of pounds a month with Sky, or stay with BT for line rental only ?

Regards.. Stu

BT Retail dont deal with issues unless your a customer of BT Retail, If sky have technical issues ever with your line it gets passed to BT wholesale/openreach. With LLU also sky have alot more diagnostic tools to fix any issues.

I would suggest to sign up to sky for better service and savings.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I would go onto BT's Line rental saver for your landline.
It maintains your flexibility if ever you want to change ISPs in the future.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

All of the copper belongs to BT OpenReach no matter who you choose for line rental or ADSL. They offer the same (abysmal) service levels to Sky as they do to BT Retail in the event of a fault on the actual line.

If you intend to stick with Sky for TV then you may as well get the phone and their LLU ADSL from them too and save some money.

If you move to SKY LLU from BT you want be able to use indirect access codes like 18185 for cheaper calls, and if you leave SKY your only option will be to move back to BT (12 month Contract).
  • Thanks for the replies... I'll do some more numbers and see what the actual savings are by NOT taking Sky line rental...
