Should I be concerned

Ive found out that my next door neighbour has swine flu. Another neighbour was over having coffee this morning when this guy walked past my house walking his dog. She suddenly got very agitated and said how stupid he was walkimg around when he was still infectious. Her whole manner surprised me because she is normally so rational and calm. Apparently he had let her know he was ill the day before.

Is it correct that he could be contagious and should be staying in doors. My main concern is that I have 2 young children, the youngest of which could suffer badly if he picked this up?

Any advice much appreciated.

i'd say don't worry too much. of course i prob wouldn't say go round for dinner.

you could go shopping in morrisons and someone has it , and they walk past you , or sneeze by you.

just keep level headed. media i think is prob making it worse. doesn't mean i don't worry, of course i do. but i'm keeping it in perspective.

if he walking about then has he really got the flu ?

when i had just normal flu i didn't move off sofa for nearly a week, the one time i did was becuase i was off to hospital as i was soo ill.

My daughter had swine flu and was in the same house as me and I was fine. It's like catching 'normal' flu. You catch it by germs. Make sur eyou wash your hands all the times and avoid touching him, inhaling his germs etc.

I'd be surprised that, if he was still in the infectious stages of swine flu (or any other flu for that matter), that he'd be well enough to be walking around!
  • There is no way he'd be out walking his dog if he was infectious with swine flu. That thing really does make you feel like you're dying, he'd still be in bed.

    So I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for your replies. Trying to keep it in perspective. I had flu last year and as you say couldn't get out of bed so dont think he can be that ill. Did the supermarket shop today and probably came into contact with more germs and bugs there.

Have to say i agree wholeheartedly with this, my daughter didn't even raise her head from the sofa, thats right the sofa, she couldn't even shift to go to bed so i left her there with her duvet.

have to say i was actually on the sofa, not the bed. i only left the sofa cause my temp was so high i couldn't stop throwing up everywhere, and i couldn't keep any fluids or medicine down to help with the temp, cause temp was too high making me be sick. so bit of a viscous circle. it was horrible. my poor children were so scared seening me like it.took me about a month to get back to my normal self.

i 'think' the term i've got the flu or had the flu is getting used a bit too loosely at the mo. i've heard many say it, when they have just had flu like symptoms for one day then fine and carrying on as normal. when you got flu it doesn't last a day or so.

ive had flu only once in my life where i physically could not move sounds terrible but my dad had to carry me everywhere even to the loo, i physically could not even will myself to move even a finger. so i never use the term having flu loosly anymore, i have had flu like symptoms but nothing near as bad as that ever and hopefully i will never have it again

There's an easy way to test whether it's flu or a cold.

Theres a £20 note on the doorstep. You're upstairs in bed.

Do you get out of bed and go and get the money?

    YES? Then it's a cold
    NO? Then it's flu

(My option was "wait for someone else to come in and ask them to pick it up for me")
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

I agree with the other comments - if he is up and about then he certainly isn't infectious with flu. Last time I had flu I went 3 days without a cup of tea:eek: I lived alone, and while I crawled to the loo when I had to, I simply couldn't stay upright long enough to make tea. That was the one time I missed my jab, never again.
