Savings account for my dog!!

Very funny everyone! its made me giggle :0)
I know an insurance policy is probably the best way to go but reading through the policy exclusions it seems like they wont pay out for anything! Not for anything relating to pre existing conditions (my dog has had bloat and an ileus so they will probably get round that one by saying they wont cover anything relating to his digestive system!!) no payment for dental problems unless relating to an accident, wont pay for death of a pet if over 9-10years if dying of an illness (havent heard many old dogs dying that wasnt related to an illness) wont pay if your dog goes missing unless its on a lead and collar!! it just seems like ill be paying £30 a month and they wont pay out if anything happens. At least with a savings account ill be able to put the money towards the treatment!
Thanks for the helpful advice and the laughs!

Same as you
I have my cat money in a tesco savings account
allows instant access (for vet bills though hopefully not needed!)
interest rate OK - certainly better than a jam jar would offer!
avoid halifax
i took my savings away from them when I realised rate was 0.1%!0 -
How about a regular saving account? They can offer a great rate and some allow you to make withdrawls without a major loss of interest... (eg if you need to pay a vet bill etc that month)
They may allow you to set up a "RE: " account, so you know its his not YOURS...
Make sure you get a good rate and it does not tail off later on (sorry had to get that one in)0 -
Have saved for several years for my cats. As they came from up north I saved in Bradford & Bingley. They don't know what to do now as they have now become Spanish (Santander). Thought might be a chance I might gain some of money rather than paying into insurance which from my past experience never pays out for what i need to claim.0

You could always make him get a job and pay for his own healthcare.

On a more serious note, you may be right about the number of exclusions and whether insurance is worth it for you or not. I have friends who've done what you're planning and never had a problem.
Your £50 will cover most day to day things and smaller procedures, and you may well never need anything else. Just have a think though about whether you've got a back up fund to cover larger bills should it be needed - mutt had a cut on her pad earlier in the year which wouldn't heal, eventually leading to her toe being amputated. The bill is now £1000+. Also a couple of years ago when she had to have a specialist referral, the bill for one days consultation and tests without any treatment was over £1000.
As I say, I have a knack for choosing unhealthy pets so I'm now supercautious because I've been unlucky with all my dogs who've had lots of illnesses and cost me a fortune, even with insurance. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
get him a tax free ISA account, and invest in shares of Pedigree0
