  • Just wanted to say i sold big stuff on ebay last year. My cooker, fridge, freezer and washer. I feel such a snob, but we had a new kitchen and the stuff was all old and dinted. It all worked, but daft stuff like cracked freezer drawers. I put it all on for 99p, and got about £250 for them. I had to have people out to the house mainly during the day when DH was at work but i didn't like it as it was mostly men, and not on their own as they were lifting heavy stuff. I just told a neighbour to keep an eye out too. You can't be too careful really. All the people were lovely, mostly young people setting up 1st homes, or people fitting out rental properties.

Thanks Michelle, That makes me feel a bit more confident... now I just have to get round to doing it! My financial month ends next weekend, and I have had a dreadful MS time of it. About the only good thing is if I hadn't been so good about taking lunches to work it would have been a lot worse!

I went out to dinner with the b/f last night. It was a pleasant evening, and good value for money, but I really don't know how our relationship is going to survive. We're both SO sensitive about everything, and we've both had lots of bad experiences in the past that we react to... I guess you would call that baggage!! It certainly makes things difficult.

My electricity meter reading was very high, and it took me several days to work out why... It's my lovely tumble dryer!!! I am going to be a lot more diligent about hanging the clothes out to dry now that the weather is warmer. I failed today though - I've only just put the washing on, which means it's unlikely to have time to dry outside... oh well, at least if it gets mostly dry I can hang it out inside overnight.

Well, it's been a dramatic week. My computer got a virus, but the b/f sorted it out for me, which was nice of him. A friend then got the same virus on her computer, so I passed the favour on by sorting it out for her!!

I sprained my ankle on Wednesday... I was crossing a road and walked off the pavement into a pot hole. A lot of people have been saying 'make a claim' but for goodness sake, it's only a sprained ankle and grazed knee! If it impacted my ability to earn then I would claim, but it doesn't, so I'm not going to. It's been a dreadful winter so potholes are par for the course and the last thing councils need are spurious compensation claims eating up time and resource that would otherwise be used to fix up pot holes!!!!!

    Grrrr...

    OK, rant over!

But the funniest thing is I tumbled over outside my work's local pub, so I went in to get a glass of water while I got over the shock. It was also lunchtime, so I thought it would help if I ate something so I asked for a basket of chips.

Then someone from work came to help me back to the office, and I hobbled out without paying for the chips!! I think it so funny that the woman who could only hobble did a runner from the pub!

I emailed them and promised to pay next week - they were so lovely to me, and it is my work's local, so I wouldn't want to be barred, lol.

I have had a fairly good MS week. I hung out a load of washing last weekend, and will hang out another today in order to reduce my tumble dryer use. I have had lots of no spend days, and haven't purchased lunch this week apart from the 'runner' bowl of chips... which can be counted as an emergency!

I am currently trying to decide whether to buy a TV stand. I like this one: http://dwell.co.uk/102318/Triple-level-TV-unit/ which is on sale at the moment, but the delivery charge is £35. I can't help thinking that if I wait for 6 months or so for their next sale that I will probably be in a position to be able to buy a wardrobe and bedside tables from them and get all of them delivered at once.

But on the other hand, I think I will need the TV stand to put the microwave on when I get the kitchen redone so at least I can eat for the two weeks or so while the renovations are in progress.

    Decisions decisions!

I hope everyone has had a good MS week.

I've just done my monthly accounts (my financial month begins / ends around the 11th!). I am quite relieved with the results as I really felt that I overspent this month, but I have managed to save a little. Yippee!!

Because I spent so much this month, my 'savings' pot was £106! Which I guess is comforting as it shows that when I do spend, I spend wisely.

My overpayment this month was £337.31, which isn't great considering there is no council tax this month AND I got a £146 repayment from nPower for gas and electricity.

On the plus side, the garage roof is now sorted and a friend dropped around some old cupboards that I will use to store things in. The next step is to start shifting stuff into it when my ankle is a bit better.

So I feel satisfied but not overly pleased with this months effort, if that makes any sense. Fingers crossed March will be a little more frugal!

    WOW!!!

Have just scored a couple of bargains. Got a kitchen tap from eBay for £25 (massive saving, anywhere else it would have cost at least £80 - £100) and a radiator for the kitchen from B&Q for £99, reduced from £219.

    Yippee!

This week has been nothing if not dramatic... the 74 yo grandfather of my upstairs neighbour was doing some DIY up a ladder on Tuesday, and fell off it from about 5ft up! It was awful, seeing him lying passed out on the ground. The paramedics came really quickly, followed by an ambulance who carted him off to hospital, and I heard today he is fine. Phew! Not something I ever want to experience again! :(

It's been a mixed week from a MS point of view - I'm very run down at the moment and have come down with sundry feminine ills which has meant I've spent a fair bit of money in Mr B. The ankle is healing OK, but the graze on my knee required some better plasters, and I think the fall must have wrenched my shoulder a little, so I was in a lot of pain earlier in the week whenever I moved my head. A couple of single use hot packs have sorted it, luckily.

My accountant has told me how much of a dividend I can be paid from my Ltd co. It will be a close run thing, but I should be able to afford my kitchen. I have enough savings that if it goes over budget I won't starve! Hopefully it will be done sometime in May. Hooray!!!!

On the plus side, I took my lunch to work every day this week. The down side is I'm going through a chocoholic phase (stress is my excuse!) but my small packets of minstrels are MUCH cheaper than buying lunch, so it's allowed, surely?!

My 'using things up' blitz is going well - I've nearly got rid of the leaf tea and am slowly getting through the herb teas. I took some lady grey tea into work as I don't like it enough to hang on to it and gave away some ginger and lemon tea to a friend.

I cooked up a very strange risotto tonight - brown rice, tumeric powder (haldi), a bit of rose wine, leek, lemon, a bit of sorrel from the garden to add to the lemoniness... it tastes OK, but I have no idea whether I will eat it all, as it's a massive pot - I just wanted to finish the pack off. I was a bit annoyed with myself in hindsight, as I hate wasting food, but then I looked at the best before date.... July 2008  so I don't feel so bad anymore - anyone else would have just chucked it!

Sepa - what about buying the minstrels in the supermarket in a multi-pack? Could you save some pennies and eak them out or would you eat them all by accident?

I have to hide the tasty supermarket treats from DH or they don't all make it to lunchboxes :D

    Hi Katsu,

I wouldn't eat all the minstrels by accident all at once, but I would get into the habit of having a pack every day, so not only would I end up spending more, I would balloon! I think it's better to buy them on an as-needed basis as a stress remedy. it's a good thought, though.

I have been up to Glasgow and back for work today  spent lots on breakfast at the airport and cabs, but it's technically a NSD as work will pay for it. Yippee!!!

Have been very good tonight and:

    Paid myself! Yippee again!!!!
Worked out my leccy, gas, council tax bills etc for my accountant to claim the costs appropriately
Paid my accountant.... boooooo.... but it would be worse if I had to do everything myself!
Made a charitable donation to the Red Cross for both the Japan AND Libya appeals

    How angelic is that! :A

and I am now VERY tired after a 5.30am start this morning. Isn't it bizarre how sometimes you find the energy to do odd things when you're exhausted!
