Connecting laptop to stereo

Hello there,
I'm sitting here gazing at two semi-broken stereos, neither of which have aux outputs (only headphone plugs) and some broken laptop speakers. I merrily bought an RCA cable without checking the backs...
Is there any way I can hook one of the stereos up to my laptop without an aux output?
I am happy to open up the stereo and start fiddling with wires so long as there are detailed instructions!
Cheers

p.s. If I had the money for fancy equipment I would just be buying new speakers!

What do you actually want to achieve? Hook them up to do what?

Please tell us what you mean by 'stereos' - mini HiFi, HiFi separates.... what?

What's the significance of them being 'semi-broken'?

I take it you mean aux inputs and you want to play music on laptop through stereo. If they have no inputs at all I think it will be very difficult you might be able to work out where the CD, radio or tape is connect to amp, disconnect that and connect one end of RCA lead to that. But as I said it will be very difficult and if you get it wrong you could damage your laptop.

If you want to play music on Stereo through Laptop headphone on Stereo to line in on laptop should work ok but I would keep volume on stereo low to avoid overloading line in on laptop.

I want to use the speakers on one of the stereos to play music on my laptop

One is a portable radio/cd player with inbuilt speakers, the other is a tape/radio/cd hifi with attached speakers

That was just to signify that taking them apart would not devastate me if they didn't go back together (both cd bits don't function properly)

I'm don't understand- also, surely if I'm just rewiring the stereo then that's the only thing at risk of damage?

If the stereo doesn't support input's, it's far more than a rewiring job, just buy some powered speakers for the laptop, or a new hifi

post no2 assumed op wanted to transfer music TO the laptop, as suggested by the words aux outputs in the original post, it seems this is not the case

See if you still think that after you've accidentally sent 240v into the headphone socket of your laptop ;)

I wouldn’t have thought a full short would do it much good either.
