Hi
Was hoping someone would be able to help.
I currently have a laptop with 69GB. Its currently showing as only having 6.6GB free. I have looked on my C Drive and i have about 20GB of music and 4GB of photos. I have no idea of what else could be taking up the space though.
How do I find out what else is taking up this space?
Thanks
Dave

Have you considered that your operating system and applications also take up space.
You could do a quick cleanup with ccleaner, you might be surprised at the space gain. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Could also be a manufacturers recovery area on the drive which may be using space?
There are a lot of laptops that now come with this...
Could be many reasons why your operating system could be using more space than it needs to either by storeing temporary files or too many system restore points.[FONT="]Information is provided as a guide only. The long way round is to start at the C: drive top level and look at all the folders within C:
The quicker way - Download WinDirStat to find out what's using the space on your drive.
Don't delete anything unless you KNOW what you're deleting.
If you're running Vista the winsxs folder is probably the culprit.0 -
if you'e on vista, check out the instruction in this post...

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

If you're running Vista, it'll be System Restore taking up the space.0

windows 7 can take alot of c drive up with its restore function aswell. It was suprising to find my C drive full a few weeks ago, about 60% was down to restore related files.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

If you want to do a quick clean up then go to start > all programs > accessories > system tools > clean up.
If you use XP then I don't think it has a system tools folder so I made that red. Run that and see if it helps. What size is your HDD?Thought for the day: each generation of mankind tends to hug the illusion of having reached the culmination of human achievement. Yet, as we scoff at our groping ancestors, so our descendants will surely scoff at us.

First of all you want to look at Disk Management to see what partitions you have on your disk (run diskmgmt.msc. or use one of the other usual ways); after that use a disk space displayer for your C: drive, like TreeSize Free as suggested by DavidMT83.0
