Don't laugh but I have a diesel Micra (replaced a petrol Vectra) it is averaging 68mpg over the last 6 months. I have a daily commute of 25 miles each way and am averaging around 18k miles per year (including social travelling). Have noticed a massive difference financially with the change (for the better); but I didn't buy new. Car tax is also less than half the price it was for the Vectra.0

I kind of went the same way, from a 2ltre petrol vectra to a 1.5 diesel renault.
My fuel bill has 1/2ved. You hit the nail on the head with the highlighted bit.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

The 1.5 DCi engine as fitted to the Micra and Clio, amoung others, is a nice little engine, not too noisy, but very slow in 68bhp form. But for a couple of hundred it can be remapped to give over 80bhp.
The only complaint I have with the wifes Clio is the simple fact she has the 68bhp version.
I believe the slightly higer powered versions are a bit better on fuel mainly due to not having to be revved as much to make reasonable progress.
I don't like revving the guts out a diesel as it just doesn't seem right.
My wife went from a Hyundai Accent to the Clio and halved her fuel bill.
My wife bought 2nd hand also, just off lease, low miles, can't remember the exact price, around £5600 if memory serves, but may have been £5700. The car was bought at CarGiant and was over £1000 cheaper than a similar car at a Renault dealer. I thin a brand new one would have been nearer £11/12k. 5dr, met paint, A/C.0 -

My cars. I measure fuel consumption by the brim method at every fill up.
Mazda2 1.3 86bhp petrol - mostly short (<10 miles) local journeys. Official combined = 54.3mpg. My experience 45 - 50mpg.
Mazda6 2.2 163bhp diesel - mostly longer journeys. Official combined = 50.4. My experience 45 - 52mpg.0 -

I have the DCi Clio and can't praise it highly enough. I currently have the 86bhp version and previously had the 106bhp version.
I looked at the serious eco cars and decided they were just too basic to be comfortable for my long commute. The clio is a smashing compromise. The 86bhp version does over 50mpg with a heavy right foot and over 60mpg if I'm careful, it is quite comfortable at motorway cruising speeds and isn't too small or basic inside (I have the dynamique trim with sports seats etc), it is also just £35 per year tax! The 106bhp version tended to get about 48mpg with my heavy right foot day to day but again on a long steady run I could get 60mpg just. It didn't come into the lower tax bracket but was lovely and sporty.
They are the biggest car in the hot hatch category and the more powerful dci manages to feel quite sporty.
A colleague has a megane with the same engine also in the low tax bracket but I would imagine that would feel a bit under powered.
I bought both my clios at around one year old, and they were a great price compared to a VW or Mini which I was also looking at.0 -
I have driven an 86bhp one aswell, and it is a much nicer drive than the 68bhp. Sometimes you need that extra bit of punch.0

My wife had a 53 plte 86bhp from nearly new, (198 miles). Phenominal mpg, 63 mpg on the round scotland trip to run it in, and then it got better, overall figure was over 60mpg with most of that running about, and few cars come close to that. She now has a megane with the 106bhp 1.5dci. Does on average 40 and best 65 mpg and she complains, ?:wall::wall:
I have the estate version, quite variable, but exceptionally 70mpg, usually on a run 60+, average? probably 47/48, and worst ever, (seen during the recent snows) 38mpg over the week. Gets my vote.:TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Absolutely great figures there. So perhaps an ave 20% is over compensating...0 -
My laguna with its 1.9DCI 120 bhp engine returns on average 40+ mpg around town and i've seen close to 70mpg on the motorways sitting at 65
I did have a RenaultSport clio 197 (2.0 litre 197bhp) hot hatch and used to use roughly £250 a month in fuel. Now in the Laguna i do the same amount of miles for £80 a monthIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0
