Virgin media cancellation

Hi guys,
I wonder if someone could help me?
I took out a virgin media contract in September when I moved into a new shared house.
I had problems in this house of bullying from another housemate and eventually had to leave for my safety (although the details are not relevant). I spoke to virgin media about switching the account into another housemate's name and they told me that this was fine. However when presented with the details of this housemate (who is not a UK citizen) they said they were unable to do this, however they could cancel the contract at a set fee rate (I believe it was £5 a month for the internet service). I agreed.
I rang today as I had a bill from virgin for the old address. They claim this cancellation never went through and I discovered I had been paying for the service for the past 2 months. (ok so I'm not great with checking what goes out of my account not to notice this but again not really the point.)
The person at virgin today told me the only way I could cancel is to pay the remaining charges on the contract. (£121 - a little different to the £5 a month I was told earlier). I explained to him that his colleague had told me different and he said his colleague was wrong.
He suggested I transfered my contract to my new address however my housemates here already had virgin media and as they won't let you have two accounts in one house this wasn't possible.

So firstly, is there anyway I can hold them to what the first guy at virgin told me? They claim calls are only recorded occasionally so it is my word against his. They have a record the call took place but no more than that. I feel a little cheated as I may have thought twice about where I moved to if they had told me it would be so costly.
Secondly, I don't have £121 to pay in one go as a connection fee. If I leave the services running I can pay monthly (same total price) but I am then responsible for the contract (and any illegal activity/charges that may occur from it).

I have asked for a manager from virgin to contact me (as there were none available at the time) but the advisor told me the managers would not be able to tell me any different and the cancellation fees would remain.

I really don't know what to do and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
