my 10 year old son would like to buy an xbox with hes xmas and birthday money.
He has only ever played on the playstation 2/3 and wii and ds etc,
the problem is i don't have a clue about the xbox, i know all there is to know about the other consoles on the market so i need some help.
i was wondering if someone could answers a few questions for me
in simple terms.
what is the best xbox console to buy.
also what other things would i need to buy to go with it.
and what are the best accessories for the xbox.
he has around £350 to spend
thank you

my daughter had the xbox with kinect for xmas, its the same sort of thing as the wii. although there is a part of xbox where you can chat to other players on chatroom and do online play. this has to be paid for, i think its around £35 for the year. the games are great . you can go to argos and the packages there are under £350. there are 2 consoles with a 4gig harddrive and a 250 gig harddrive, . either are ok....spanky xx

From what I understand (we only have a Wii), the 4GB Xbox has a 'flash' drive, not a hard drive.
The advantage of a proper hard drive is you can store music / video to watch, but more importantly you can download your game disks and play them from the hard drive, so as not to wear and scratch the game disks as much. I think the disk still needs to be in the drive to 'prove' you have it - maybe someone with an Xbox can confirm this ?0 -
Get a 250GB Xbox 360 with Kinect if you want it. I paid £330 from GAME with Kinect and 1 game. I love it so far. I was originally going to get the old style Xbox 360 4gb and place a bigger hard drive inside, but it worked out around the same price if I bought it like that.0

250GB Xbox Slim, £199.99
HDMI cable, no more than £10.also what other things would i need to buy to go with it.and what are the best accessories for the xbox.
He'll need a Xbox Live Gold subscription to play online which is £35 a year.
The Xbox model listed above has a headset and wifi included. There's not really much more to buy unless you want to get the Kinect however I personally would wait and see what stuff comes out for it as at the moment, there's only a handful of "technology demo" party type games rather than any proper full on ones.0 -
250GB xbox if he wants to store any music, video or games on it - or if he wants to download content from xbox live (such as games).
If he wants to play against his friends online he will need an xbox live membership (can be bought for around £30 - £25 online for 12 months membership).
I haven't used Kinnect but I believe that it works best in larger rooms (according to a number of reviews I have read - my son has it and he seems to go along with this view).
A lot of people seem to think Kinnect is very good however.
At £350 to spend I would suggest that you may want to look at a package with games (possibly with Kinnect but you may want to ask him to have a think about it - perhaps he would rather spend on more games rather than on Kinnect).
Another thing you may have taken into consideration already is that once the games are completed he can sell them or trade them for others - or even to get Kinnect.0 -

He has only ever played on the playstation 2/3 and wii and ds etc, why not trade in any of these to help with the cost

personally id get the console with the 250gb hard drive, he will take ages to fill it up(but can easily make space by deleting game demos etc)
also what other things would i need to buy to go with it.
if he has friends who have an xbox and they play on xbox live (multiplayer side of the xbox) then a subscription is needed eg something like here
and what are the best accessories for the xbox.
well does he or woud he want to play driving games as you can get the steering wheel and pedals for it, theres the kinect but it depends if he would be into that, does he have any friends who have 1 that he could try out
he has around £350 to spend
if he gets the kinect bundle + 360 then that would be enough plus he could (if he wants trade in 1 of his other console) and get naother game
thank you
