I work for Nationwide, and yes, all their rates are much better than Natwest. UK call centres only, however, if its a business account you are after, then you cant have online banking with it unfortunately. Im still not sure why this is though if im honest, or if this is going to change in the future.

  • Cahoot answer your through to cahoot in coventry!
Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?
  • Yes, but isn't cahoot the "fastest shrinking bank in history" - I mean, they only seem to offer the current and savings account. Everything else is linked through to Abbey. I remember in the not too distant past, Santander banging on about Abbey and how cahoot fitted into this jigsaw as the place to trial new and innovative products - their 'hot bed' where they could try cutting edge products and accounts... All sounds a bit like they were just trying to talk the shareholders into bed now doesn't it. And even the two accounts they've left are not the most competitive or innovative ones around. Shame really as they could've pulled cahoot up a bit and made it a decent player again.

Royal Bank of Scotland--also direct phone line to the manager and branch---trouble is their products are not very competitive ,but I use their online banking as well because it is excellent .I keep them as my base account, they have very good customer service, but I shop around for my savings.Move my money online to their online saving ,but that is still not competitive, but they maintain a good customer base ,because they can be reached.

DH works for HSBC and says he isn't surprised that the call centre in India are thicker than two short planks. He works in a major department which involves major amounts of money being transferred from business to business, and his department spend nearly all their time losing their rag with the Indian call centres. One of his managers literally blew his stack at them the other day and slammed the phone down on them..

He did suggest that if you want a business account to go for HSBC's "Business Internet Banking" (BIB), its relatively new but it is growing more and more each day.

If you want any more help give me a shout..and I'll pick his brains..

  • Gordon, thanks for the advice.

I have a Nat West Current Account, and use online banking all the time.
Can you explain to me what an E-Saver is? I pay around £850 into my Current account every month. I've posted before about how much I want to change to another good online bank, with UK call centres just in case.

I'm someone else who needs that push to change having been with Nat West for 20 years. The bank having ethical policies is also important to me and Smile was recommended. After these posts, I'm considering Nationwide too.

    Thanks for your help.
