Anyone here work in a bank or can reocommend one

Anyone on here work in a bank ? If so, does your bank NOT have any Indian call centres ?

My company is currently with HSBC, but I am losing my patience in a big way. Their site is not working again this morning, you ring and get through to an indian, one didnt know the letter Q (and said there was no such letter in the english alphabet) and several times they have taken the password letter down wrong 3 times, frozen my account and Ive got to write to the business manager at my branch to get it opened again.

All in all its worse than useless. All I want is a business account that I can pay cheques into etc, no borrowing etc is required.

Can you recommend anywhere ? Ive looked at NatWest (due to their advert "All Call centres based in UK") but would like to shop around a bit more, and I can't be bothered walking in them all.

I bank with the Woolwich and they seem to always have a UK based call centre (sounds like its oop North somewhere) but they're not the best bank I've ever worked with. I've had a few problems in the past and they are less than helpful. But then again it depends what you are after

i worked and banked with nationwide. they call centre is based in swindon with 24 hour access. but you can also call any of the branches diresct and most enquiries can be dealt with direct by branch. they also do a business account, from what i can remember it does have some limitations you would need to check up on but also has loads of advantages, less charges etc, they also offer a great home insurance. stopped working their 3 years ago due to illness so not touting for busines lol

As they become part of Barclays, you may find the calls start to be answered in India.

i used to work for natwest (had positive reason for leaving but really miss the place)

they are totally committed to keeping the call centres in uk (my friends still work there) especially with them being owned by RBS.

I work for the 'worlds local bank' (not in a branch and not for the 'bank' side of the business) but there is no way i would bank with them! I have problems with the Indian call centres when dealing with internal IT problems.

Natwest are very good. They have been my bank for ten years.

I was told the way round not speaking to a foreign call centre is to ask to be transfered through to my local branch. Ive yet to test this peice of advice though.

  • Natwest has UK call centres only, you can also phone your local branch through a number on your statement.

If you do go with them for that reason:

    1. Don't get Advantage Blue, Advantage Gold or advantage anything else, the account pays virtually no interest, don't pay for it too.

    2. Open an E-saver and keep as little money as possible in the 0.1% current account. Transfers online are instant so you don't need to keep much in it. If you keep say £50 in it, if you want to spend more than that use a credit card and then pay it off to avoid interest.

The customer service is excellent, far better than A&L from my experience but you pay for it with lower interest rates, even the E-saver pays less than the A&L (and others) current accounts.

I use nationwide and all their call centres are in the UK and i've never had a problem with them.
  • If Nationwide's call centres are all in the UK then it is a better deal than Natwest, both the current account and E-saver pay better than Natwest products. If you pay less than £1000 per month into your account though either follow my E-saver advice OR cheat (withdraw and re-deposit to make deposits up to £1000) with Nationwide as their rates are low if you pay in less than £1k per month (0.25% for less than £500, 1.25% for £500.01-£999.99 and 4.25% for over £1000) the E-saver pays 4.75% regardless.

Check the Nationwide rates since I haven't checked in a couple of months so they might have changed.
