You should have a look at some popular free downloading sites such as downloads.com. A keylogger is a piece of software that can be installed that will capture keystrokes and save them into a text file. Obviously they are useful for getting usernames and passwords which is obviously unethical. Installing a suitable keylogger can be hard as someone with even limited experience can detect a basic one with little checks.

Are you willing to share the reason as to why you wish to do this?

It can be hardware too - such as a device that sits between the keyboard and PS/2 or USB port.

Apologies, yes you're right they can be hardware as well - I typed it in a rush and assumed the op was talking about software.

If using IE then it's probably simpler to get a viewer to view the contents of the index.dat file (which retains the full browsing history even when the user thinks they've cleared it).

What result are you trying to achieve? To log somebody else's usage of your computer, or you suspect there is a keylogger spying on you? If there is one on your machine, it won't be obvious and you don't just turn it off. If you feel you need to monitor usage of your own machine, there are better solutions...
  • I installed one on my PC a couple years ago to catch my (ex) OH cheating with a girl online.

Think it was called acespy or something.
