    drum bearings = expensive

motor brushes = not so (possible DIY fix)

You could pull it out, take the sides/back/top off and see if you can identify where the grinding is coming from, it might be something simple or it may not, but at least you'll isolate the cause.

Would have been my initial guess too - underwiring can sound flipping awful if it escapes (why oh why oh why can't science invent a satisfactory undergarment for women that doesn't turn on you and try to stab you through the chest - or reappear out of your v-neck jumper in front of the boss - before lunchtime?!?!?!?!? You bet if it was men's pants pulling this trick and turning on them it would have been researched to death by now!).

is it an unbearable grating when the drum turns? mine did that, after looking for diy fixes i decided to buy a new washer, at least that way you have a new warranty.

It's a 9 year old Bosch. The noise isn't grating, just sounds as if something needs a bit of oil or WD40- that sort of noise

Its a misconception that drum bearings are expensive.
I fixed our washer drier just before Christmas, Cost less than £20.

I bought the parts from a bearing factor rather than an appliace centre. Half the price.

A basic toolkit with a set of torx bits and a decent punch is as specialist as i needed.
