Sky want to change to freesat

Wonder if someone could help me please.
My mum has the basic sky box/basic channel package - one of the very old boxes and no Sky+. She would like to be able to record tv to watch later. What is the cheapest/easiest way to do it?
If we buy a freesat hd recorder will she need an additional line from the dish to record and watch at the same time?
Alternatively if we contact sky how much extra would it be to get her a sky+ box and to have it installed?
Thanks

Even if she had Sky+, once you stop your Sky sub the box loses it's PVR functions anyway. The only way to retain that is to pay an absurd £10pm to retain the PVR functions. And she would still need to buy a Sky+ box anyway.
If she doesn't want any Sky subscription channels, then it's crazy paying Sky for anything Get a Humax Foxsat HDR and then all that is needed is the extra feed from the dish to use it as a PVR. She will also need a minimum twin LNB if not already fitted.
If you wanted a Sky+ box, just buy one on eBay and plug it in it yourselves. The extra feed is an easy DIY task, or a small job for your local satellite installer. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Why buy a second hand box from ebay if she intends continuing to subscribe to Sky - upgrade with a free new box from Sky and probably a lot lower install cost than for a local installer to fit one cable. Your suggestion makes very little economic sense beyond no extra 12 month minimum sub contract.0 -
Thanks for your replies. What are the chances of her getting a free upgrade box? She doesn't like calling, they tend to confuse her and they are unlikely to speak to me as the account is in her name.0

She can give them your details and permission to speak on her behalf. This should then be added to her account, so that you can speak to them at any time re the account.
I do this for my parent's on gas/electric/sky/ and others.
DanWe used to to shop at Tesco. But then we saw the light.0 -

Well obviously that suggestion was based on her not subscribing, apart from maybe the £10pm for Sky+ if she doesn't go the Freesat route.
All depends what channels she actually wants, which we weren't told.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
