Phone completely bricked and out for repair

Hi

I completely bricked (wouldn't even turn on or receive power, could no longer get either 3 button mode and didn't work with battery tricks like removing and trying buttons) my phone a couple of weeks back and it's now at the repair shop where I bought it being repaired under guarantee. My question is, what are they able to tell about the history of it being bricked? It was my first ever attempted at this sort of thing (thus leaving me a bit burnt in terms of whether I would again!). I said I did it upgrading through Kies. Are they able to tell?

Also are they likely to be able to restore it or will it end up being replaced and am I likely to get Froyo with the returned model?

I know these are questions that patience would answer but I'm missing my phone (having been stuck with a terrible Nokia 1800 in the mean time)

Ta in advance

If you left any trace (altered boot loader for example) then yes they can tell, and if you are with Vodafone they'll probably reject it for repair. Had it happen to me on an Sony Ericson, had a hardware fault but they detected the tampering and refused to repair it even though the software was not the fault.

If they do restore it they'll probably move it to the latest "approved" release from the network, so if the network has only approved 1.6 (unlikely but...) you'll get 1.6. If the network has not released a FROYO variant you proably wont get it.

Hope it goes better for you than mine did.

It was with Orange who weirdly have released Froyo to some but some others. I've ehard of people having the motherboard replaced when confronted with a similar problem so fingers crossed!

I have insurance with insurance2go but as I went with the monhtly option, they then want a full years amount before processing a claim so might not do that.

Plus a mobile recycling place offers £90 for broken Galaxy S so may just do that and get an Orange SF and cancel my insurance. 13 months left of my contract and as it was an upgrade, am not paying too much for my current contract

Its really suck it and see and will depend a lot upon the tech who picks it up for repair off the bench .

Kies can brick your phone it bricked mine with last but one update .
However a permanent bricked phone tends to be very rare with Android problem is a lot see xx rom posted and install as first step rather than reading the relevant stickies and troubleshooting techniques first .

Even if it comes back without Froyo it will be upgradable via Kies if network has Froyo .
