Lets hope this answer can prove as helpful as the last! :)

Im bidding on a Dell Lattitude D620 laptop from Ebay, but the listing says no HDD or Caddy.

Not being the most techie person in the world, could anybody tell me what this means?

    Thanks!

You don't know what you are bidding on?

If you are a non techie, maybe it's best to avoid this particular item, as you will have to buy the HDD, caddy and operating system seperately, and then install them all

i would avoid Linux going by your question, and stick with windows

Yes it sure is, and Ubuntu is fine too.

Joy (OP) as an aside why do you need to take a lappy with you , enjoy Estonia take you camera, and call home often. Forget Facebook, Youtube etc when I was same age as you there were no phones in my street (well at home at least) and when I was away I wrote (pen and paper remember those and got my films developed when I got home). Anyway reminiscence aside good travels and keep us posted

and ubuntu is easier than windows,
you dont have to start installing loads of drivers for starters.

I speak up for the Mint distro which is Ubuntu with commercial drivers etc already bundled - so you don't need to install flash, nvidia drivers etc, as the distro is less purist than Ubuntu, yet as it is just a version of Ubuntu you have all the same everything available, plus a VERY simple apps system with stars scoring them from user reviews, etc., and the start button where you would hope to find it, the minimise, restore and maximise buttons in the 'right' place etc - very gentle simple move for Windows users.

But I would probably not spend a heap on a lappy of unknown providence with no hard drive, and missing the bit you need to bodge it to fit Dell's connector. Battery may be flakey too - often are on old lappies - so unless it is cheap as free, i'd consider carefully.

As per above, it'll be easy to get a hard disk to put in.
But the caddy could be a right pain to find, as it will be a Dell part specifically made for that machine.

If you are thinking of using Windows on the laptop, beware that Windows will not allow you to install it on an external drive.

Here is a video showing how to swap the hard drive in a Dell D620. It shows the caddy that you will need to purchase if using an internal drive.
